Punta Gorda sits at the mouth of the Peace River on Charlotte Harbor, about 30 minutes north of Fort Myers. Hurricane Charley leveled much of it in 2004, and the rebuild produced a compact, well-planned downtown with brick sidewalks, a harborwalk and a genuine small-city feel.
Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) is a Allegiant-focused field five minutes from downtown — a real convenience if your home airport is in the Midwest or Northeast.
