Auto transport carrier travelling the Minnesota to Florida corridor

Southbound corridor

Minnesota to Southwest Florida Car Shipping

Roughly 1,800 miles from the Twin Cities to the Gulf Coast, and the busiest snowbird lane we run. Owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded, and based in Naples at the receiving end.

The corridor

Almost every southbound vehicle from Minnesota follows the same shape: I-35 down through Iowa and Missouri, then east across to I-65 or I-75 through Tennessee and Georgia, then the long run down the Florida peninsula to I-75 and Alligator Alley or the Gulf Coast exits. Typical door-to-door transit is 3–6 days in transit once loaded.

What makes it a snowbird lane rather than an ordinary long haul is that tens of thousands of households make the same trip in the same eight-week window. From mid-October through November, southbound capacity tightens and pickup windows lengthen. Booking three to six weeks out in that period is the difference between choosing your week and taking what is left.

At the Florida end, the constraint stops being the highway and becomes the last mile: guard gates, tree canopy and community roads that a 75-foot carrier cannot turn around in. We plan that before a driver is dispatched, not on delivery day.

Snowbird routes fill fast. Booking three to six weeks ahead helps us secure priority dispatch with our preferred carrier network. Lead times shown are estimates, not guarantees.

Shipping more than one vehicle? (optional)

Add up to 5 additional vehicles and we'll quote them on the same trailer where possible — multi-vehicle moves usually price better per car.

Origins

Where we pick up in Minnesota

Minneapolis · Twin Cities core

The anchor pickup market for the whole corridor. Carriers running Florida loads out of Minnesota almost always build the load around a Minneapolis-area stop, so a Minneapolis pickup usually has the widest choice of trucks on any given week.

Minneapolis to Naples →

St. Paul · Twin Cities core

Paired with Minneapolis on nearly every southbound load. Pickup timing tends to track whatever the driver is doing on the Minneapolis side of the river.

St. Paul to Naples →

Rochester · Southeast Minnesota

Sits directly on the natural southbound path toward I-35 and I-90, so it is genuinely convenient rather than a detour. Mayo-related seasonal travel adds demand outside the usual snowbird months.

Rochester to Naples →

Bloomington · South metro

Close to MSP, which makes it the easiest market in the state for customers who are shipping the car and flying south the same week.

Bloomington to Naples →

Edina · West metro

A heavy snowbird origin, and a market where enclosed transport gets requested far more often than the state average.

Edina to Naples →

Eden Prairie · Southwest metro

Corporate relocations run alongside snowbird demand here, so the shipping calendar is less strictly seasonal than in the lake suburbs.

Eden Prairie to Naples →

Minnetonka · West metro

Long-standing lake-country snowbird market with a high share of second-home owners in Collier and Lee counties.

Minnetonka to Naples →

Wayzata · Lake Minnetonka

One of the strongest enclosed-transport markets in Minnesota, and a common origin for owners shipping to Naples and Marco Island.

Wayzata to Naples →

Excelsior · Lake Minnetonka

Small, dense downtown with a seasonal population that empties toward Southwest Florida after the holidays.

Excelsior to Naples →

Plymouth · Northwest metro

Large, spread-out suburb that produces steady southbound volume without the access headaches of the lake towns.

Plymouth to Naples →

Maple Grove · Northwest metro

Newer development means carrier-friendly geometry, which sometimes buys a day of scheduling flexibility over the older suburbs.

Maple Grove to Naples →

Eagan · South metro

Sits right on the I-35 southbound line and close to MSP — a practical combination for anyone flying to RSW the same week the car leaves.

Eagan to Naples →

Lakeville · South metro

The furthest-south large suburb, which occasionally shaves a stop off a driver's route and makes it an attractive add to a Florida load.

Lakeville to Naples →

Rosemount · South metro

Semi-rural edges give drivers room to work, but the trade-off is fewer trucks passing through on a given day than in the core metro.

Rosemount to Naples →

Woodbury · East metro

Large east-metro snowbird base, well positioned for drivers routing down through Wisconsin and Illinois rather than straight down I-35.

Woodbury to Naples →

Stillwater · St. Croix Valley

River-town geography puts it slightly off the main line, so pickup windows can run a day wider than the metro core.

Stillwater to Naples →

North Oaks · North metro

Private-road community with a high enclosed-transport share; planning the handoff matters more here than the mileage does.

North Oaks to Naples →

Medina · West metro

Acreage properties and long driveways. Loading is usually easy once the truck reaches the property, if it can.

Medina to Naples →

Blaine · North metro

The northernmost of the priority markets, which means the driver picks up here first and the vehicle spends slightly longer on the trailer.

Blaine to Naples →

Chanhassen · Southwest metro

Sits on the Carver–Hennepin line just off Highway 5 and 212, so a carrier working the southwest suburbs can add it without leaving the corridor it is already running.

Chanhassen to Naples →

Orono · Lake Minnetonka

Lakeshore addresses with a high enclosed-transport share. Most moves here are planned well ahead of the southbound peak rather than booked last minute.

Orono to Naples →

Mendota Heights · East metro

Minutes from the 494/35E junction and the airport, which makes it one of the easier east-metro pickups to slot into a driver's day.

Mendota Heights to Naples →

Prior Lake · South metro

Scott County lake community south of the 169 corridor; pickups are usually grouped with Savage, Shakopee and Burnsville on the same run.

Prior Lake to Naples →

Questions

Minnesota to Southwest Florida, answered

When should a Minnesota snowbird ship their car to Florida?
Book three to six weeks before the window you want. For a November departure that means booking in late September or early October. Booking earlier does not lower the market rate on its own, but it does give you a short pickup window instead of a wide one, and it keeps you out of the last-minute premium that November and April demand.
Should I ship my car before I fly to Florida?
Usually yes. Handing the vehicle over while you are still in Minnesota is far simpler than trying to coordinate a pickup after you have left. Make the vehicle available a few days before your flight, and if the truck ends up running late you still have a car to drive to the airport.
How many days before my flight should my car be available?
Plan on the vehicle being available for a window rather than a date — typically a two to three day range, wider during the October to December and March to May peaks. If you can make the car available roughly a week before you fly, the shipment almost never becomes a problem.
Can someone else release my vehicle in Minnesota?
Yes. You can designate another adult — a neighbour, family member, property manager or dealership contact — to hand over the keys and sign the Bill of Lading at pickup. Tell us the name and phone number in advance so the driver knows who they are meeting, and make sure that person understands they are signing the condition report on your behalf.
Can someone else receive my vehicle in Naples?
Yes, on the same basis. Whoever receives the vehicle inspects it against the Bill of Lading and signs for it, so choose someone willing to actually walk around the car rather than sign and go. Photographs at delivery protect both of you.
What happens if the carrier arrives after I've flown to Florida?
Nothing breaks — we switch to your designated release contact at the Minnesota end. This is a normal, planned outcome on this corridor, not an emergency. The only bad version is not having named anyone, which is why we ask for a backup contact when you book a shipment close to your flight.
What happens if my vehicle arrives before I do?
We coordinate with the carrier to hold delivery for your arrival date where the driver's schedule allows, or hand the vehicle to a person you have designated. For customers flying into RSW, timing the delivery to the arrival is usually easier than holding the vehicle, because a loaded driver wants to unload and keep moving.
Can an auto transporter enter my gated community?
Sometimes. It depends on the guard-gate policy, the association's vendor rules, interior road width, tree canopy, roundabouts and whether there is anywhere to turn a 75-foot rig around. Many Southwest Florida communities allow it; a good number do not. We plan for both and agree a nearby meeting point in advance so delivery day is never a negotiation at the gate.
Where can I meet an auto transport truck in Naples?
Large open commercial lots on the main east-west corridors are the usual answer — the sort of place with room for a long trailer to enter and exit without reversing into traffic. We agree the specific spot with you and the driver before delivery day, and we do not ask you to meet a truck somewhere unsafe or on a shoulder.
Can a car carrier deliver to my condo?
Occasionally, but the honest answer is usually no for a full-size carrier. Condominium properties in Naples, Marco Island and Fort Myers Beach rarely have the turning room or overhead clearance in their entrances and parking decks. A nearby handoff, or a short local move once the vehicle is off the trailer, is the normal solution.
