Sponsored “best of” rankings often recommend the same national companies on every city page — whether or not they are actually located in your hometown. We investigated one and documented what we found.
A “Best in Naples” ranking where the top picks aren't in Naples — or even Florida.
A major freight publication ranked car shipping companies for Naples consumers. The same three national companies appear at the top of its pages for Cape Coral, Orlando-to-Seattle and beyond — headquartered in Illinois, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Delaware. Meanwhile, one company the page scored at 4.4/5 currently holds a 1.91/5 on the BBB from 110 customer reviews, while an actual Naples company with a 4.8 Google rating scored lower.
- Ask where the company actually operates. If it's a big company on the first page of Google, chances are its primary offices are overseas — in Bulgaria, the Philippines, Ukraine and elsewhere. Where are the people answering the phone, negotiating your rate and handling your payment information? Support American-based businesses.
- Look for the advertiser disclosure. When editorial rankings and “Get Quote” buttons share a page, you deserve to know whether money changes hands for clicks, calls or leads. Don't fall for Forbes “best” lists or Consumer Voice-style pages — these are paid lead-generation placements that can earn $2,000 or more per listing just for claiming a company is “top rated.”
- Cross-check the review scores yourself. Compare the ranking site's score against BBB, Google and Yelp — including review-platform warnings about removed fake reviews.
- Watch for fake-review pressure. Many former employees of large companies frequently report they were told to write fake reviews on Google Maps by their employer. A flood of five-star posts over a short period is a warning sign.
- Paid reviews are common. The biggest brokerages reportedly pay clients $200 each to write reviews. These companies make tens of millions per year — they can afford it. Getting real customers to leave reviews is incredibly hard, let alone tens of thousands of them.
- Watch for review bribery. Many people report on Google and Yelp that top companies offer gift certificates to Restaurants.com or similar incentives if they change a negative review to a positive one. A scrubbed reputation is not the same as a good reputation.
- Verify the FMCSA record. A U.S. address and a website that “looks local” do not tell you where the operation is located. Look up the USDOT and MC number before you pay a deposit.

The Fake Google Maps Auto Transport Problem
When you search “car shipping near me,” the map listings that look local may not be local at all. We investigated what is happening on Google Maps in Southwest Florida and what consumers should check before they call.
Who are you really calling when you search “car shipping near me”?
Google Maps listings can show a Naples address, a local phone number, and signs on buildings — while the listings are using AI-generated images, fake review patterns, fake virtual offices, or worse, using legitimate companies' addresses and pretending to be their own.
- Look up the DOT/MC number yourself. A real company website should always list its USDOT and MC number prominently — like ours does — so you can verify it on the FMCSA SAFER website.
- Ask where the person answering the phone is located. “Local” on a map does not mean the dispatcher, billing, or claims department is in your state.
- Demand the carrier's information and payment breakdown. If a company says they have a carrier for you but never sends you the carrier's name, DOT/MC number, driver contact and truck details, or you never get to see how much of your payment is going to the carrier, that is a red flag.
- Watch for pressure and payment red flags. Large deposits demanded by Zelle or Venmo, refusal to disclose the broker fee, or pressure to book immediately are reasons to keep calling around.

When AI Recommends a Fake Car Shipping Company
AI assistants and AI search results pull recommendations from map listings and scraped web pages — without verifying them against federal databases. That means a chatbot can confidently send you straight to a ghost broker.
AI reads the same poisoned well scammers poison
Scammers build fake map listings and SEO-optimized websites that look completely authentic to an AI crawler — professional design, stock truck photos, and dozens of bot-posted five-star reviews. When an AI model simply scrapes that data instead of checking the FMCSA registry, it funnels real people into deposit theft, identity harvesting, and vehicles held hostage by unvetted drivers.
- The bait-and-switch deposit trap. A ghost profile quotes an impossibly low price, collects an upfront deposit, then disappears — or a different trucker shows up demanding double before unloading your car.
- Identity harvesting. Fake profiles exist to collect your name, phone, address and card details — then sell them to aggressive telemarketers and lead brokers.
- Zero accountability. A ghost broker has no real DOT/MC # and no bond — if your vehicle is damaged or stolen, there is nothing legitimate to file a claim against.
- Treat AI answers as a starting point, not proof. Verify the USDOT/MC number yourself on the FMCSA SAFER site before you book anyone — it takes under five minutes.
- Up-front deposit pressure. Large deposits — half or all of the broker fee up front — demanded by Zelle or Venmo, refusal to disclose the broker fee, or pressure to book immediately are reasons to keep calling around. A standard broker fee is around $300 per car.
- “#1” and “largest broker” claims. Bigger usually means a call center, a different agent every time, and operations commonly outsourced to Ukraine, Bulgaria, Pakistan or the Philippines. Read their Yelp reviews to see the real picture — the biggest marketing budgets do not mean the best service.

You do not have to take any company's word for it. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration keeps free public records on every licensed broker and carrier in the country. Here is exactly what to ask for and where to verify it:
1.Ask for the MC and USDOT numbers
Every legitimate broker and carrier must provide both on request. Our numbers: USDOT #2273104 and MC #774106. If a company hesitates or deflects, stop.
2.Look them up on the FMCSA SAFER system
Go to safer.fmcsa.dot.gov and use the Company Snapshot search. Enter the MC or USDOT number and confirm the legal name, operating status and “Authorized” broker or carrier authority match what you were told.
3.Confirm the $75,000 broker bond
In the FMCSA Licensing & Insurance portal (li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov), verify the broker's BMC-84 bond or BMC-85 trust fund is active. No active bond means no legal authority to broker your shipment.
4.Demand the carrier's information and payment breakdown
If a company says they have a carrier for you but never sends you the carrier's name, DOT/MC number, driver contact and truck details, or you never get to see how much of your payment is going to the carrier, that is a red flag. A legitimate broker discloses the assigned carrier and explains the broker fee before you book.

Enterprise Auto Transport is a concierge auto transport service. We do not take bookings through an anonymous online checkout, and we do not hand your vehicle off to a dispatcher you will never meet. Every move starts with a conversation — because we will not book a car until we understand exactly what you need, where it is going, and how you want it handled.
Personal service first. A licensed coordinator speaks with every client before booking. We confirm the route, the vehicle details, timing, and any special handling — enclosed, inoperable, modified, or white-glove — before a contract is ever written.
No online booking traps. We do not believe a vehicle that may be worth more than a house should be scheduled with a few clicks and a credit card. If a broker will not get on the phone with you, that is a red flag.
Broker fee and carrier fee are separate. The deposit we explain up front covers our broker fee only — it is the same price for everyone. The carrier fee is separate, exactly the way the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration expects it to be. We operate by the rules.
We know our carriers. We are a small, owner-operated team based in Southwest Florida. The majority of carriers we dispatch are carriers we have worked with before, either through our SWFL hub or through the same load boards our competitors use — the difference is how we vet and how we treat them.
U.S.-based, English-speaking team. We do not hand your vehicle off to an overseas employee. Our entire operation is based in the United States, and every rep you speak with speaks English.
The difference between a real broker and a sales room
We believe roughly 99% of "brokers" advertising online are not real brokers in the way a licensed realtor or insurance agent is. Many are unlicensed sales agents working on commission splits between their boss, the carrier, and themselves. That split creates pressure to short-change the carrier, hide the deposit, and promise "no deposit up front" while they shop your load to the lowest bidder.
- •They refuse to disclose the broker fee because the fee is often layered and negotiable at the customer's expense.
- •They low-ball the carrier first to see how cheaply the job can be moved, then raise the price on you after you are committed.
- •Some spend tens of thousands of dollars per month on Google ads and bury bad reviews with manufactured positive ones.
- •Large overseas operations employ teams to write fake reviews — a pattern that often shows up in former employee reviews on Glassdoor.

About the bond: The FMCSA requires every licensed auto transport broker to maintain a $75,000 fmcsa surety bond. This bond exists to protect shippers and carriers against fraud, failure to pay, or breach of contract. If we ever collect a carrier payment from you and do not pay the carrier, the bond is there to make the carrier whole — and that is why we keep broker fees and carrier funds completely separate. We prefer the carrier be paid by you at the time of delivery. Most carriers accept cash or Zelle; most do not accept credit cards. Some will accept Venmo or Cash App, but those apps charge the carrier processing fees, so please consider adding a tip to cover those fees if you choose to pay through an app.

Why a licensed broker matters
Most of the people you talk to online are sales agents, not brokers. A realtor works under a licensed broker, must pass a state exam, carries errors-and-omissions insurance, and can lose their license for misrepresenting a deal. If they mishandle money or a contract, there is a state board, a broker of record, and real consequences.
Auto transport has none of that. Anyone can call themselves a "broker agent," hire overseas salespeople, and start taking deposits and credit card numbers for vehicles that cost as much as a house. No license is required to answer the phone. No broker is supervising the sale. No state board polices the promise. Overseas call centers routinely handle sensitive credit card information with no U.S. accountability, no bond, no DOT authority, and no MC number. When something goes wrong, the person who took your deposit is gone.

That company purchased our domain name and is using it to ship cars without our authorization. We have notified FMCSA Chief Barrs and an investigation is underway. This company has been reported to the Fraud Division and Chief Derrick Barrs personally sent this to his fraud division team on our behalf. Also, on 9/19 we filed a complaint with the Nevada Attorney General Consumer Protection Bureau, as it is illegal to operate under a business name you do not own. We are a very small family-owned company and are very disappointed that this person is operating illegally under our name. They also own a number of fake websites in Naples on Google Maps that are also being investigated by the FMCSA.
We do operate local city-named websites, but every real Enterprise Auto Transport page shows our logo at the top and lists our FMCSA numbers (USDOT USDOT #2273104, MC MC #774106). If you call another number and the person on the phone is not Rena, you are not reaching Enterprise Auto Transport.

Enterprise Auto Transport is a licensed broker. The assigned carrier holds the cargo insurance, so all damage claims are filed with the carrier — your signed Bill of Lading and pickup/delivery photos are what support them.
Before pickup
Personal items: what you can and cannot load
Beware: do not overload your vehicle
Do not put more than 100 pounds of personal items inside the car. Do not load your car like Noah's Ark. Extra weight changes the carrier's fuel costs, trailer balance and insurance exposure. If you need more than 100 pounds, you must discuss it with your coordinator before dispatch — many carriers will not allow it at all.
Never ship these inside your vehicle
Pets, live plants, firearms, ammunition, illegal drugs, prescription medication, hazardous materials, explosives, flammables and perishables are never allowed. If a carrier finds any of these items, he may refuse the load on the spot.
Our standard with every carrier
We put in our contract with every carrier that our clients are allowed up to 100 pounds of personal items in the trunk or below the window line. If a driver tries to charge you extra for the first 100 pounds, call us immediately at (239) 273-4649.
What leading companies typically allow
Most major auto transport brokers and FMCSA-licensed carriers follow roughly the same rules for personal items. The limits exist for weight, safety and insurance reasons.

Once your vehicle is on a truck, the driver and their dispatch team become your direct point of contact for everything related to pickup timing, delivery timing and payment. Here is how the relationship works — and the best way to get answers quickly.

Our job is to negotiate the rate between you and the carrier, make the reservation, and set up the contract. We do not schedule pickup or delivery windows.
What the carrier handles
Once a carrier is assigned, the carrier and their team handle all calls about pickup, delivery and payment. They are independent contractors with their own schedules.
The fastest way to reach your driver
Please contact your carrier at the direct number provided by your sales representative. We recommend sending a text first and giving the driver a little time to respond — they may be loading, unloading, or driving and cannot answer immediately. The number you have is the same number we would call.
Only call Enterprise Auto Transport about carrier matters if you have tried reaching the carrier yourself and have not been able to get through. We are happy to help, but in most cases a quick text or call to the driver is the fastest path to an update.

Does Enterprise Auto Transport have a physical office or terminal in Naples?

Is car shipping the same thing as auto transport?
Yes. "Car shipping" and "auto transport" describe the same service — a licensed carrier moves your vehicle on a professional truck between two locations. Customers search both terms, so you will see us use them interchangeably across this site.
How much does it cost to ship a car?
Most cross-country moves fall between $900 and $1,800 open, and $1,500 to $3,000 enclosed. Distance, vehicle size, route density, season and operability all move the number. We quote your specific lane, not an average.
How long does transport take?
Roughly 500 miles per day once loaded. Coast to coast is typically 6–9 days; regional lanes under 800 miles are often 1–2 days. Expedited service compresses that meaningfully.
Is my vehicle insured?
Yes. Every open carrier we dispatch carries $250,000 in cargo coverage and every enclosed carrier carries up to $2,000,000. You receive the certificate before pickup on request.
Do you use small trailers or tow dollies?
Never. We move vehicles exclusively on professional semi-truck car carriers operated by career drivers.
Can I put personal belongings inside my vehicle during transport?
Under FMCSA regulations, car shipping carriers are not licensed to haul household goods. Some carriers permit a limited amount of personal items secured in the trunk, but those belongings travel at the owner's risk and are not covered by carrier cargo insurance.
How long does it take to transport a car interstate?
Cross-country auto shipping generally takes 7 to 10 days. Shorter interstate runs such as New York to Florida or Ohio to Florida average 3 to 5 days in transit, depending on driver routing, traffic and seasonal weather.
Know before you book
An honest disclaimer about this industry
The deposit is charged at the time of booking, and we will always tell you exactly what it covers: our fee for sourcing, vetting and dispatching a licensed, insured carrier. The balance is paid to the driver at delivery. A deposit is not a red flag — a broker who refuses to explain their fee is.
At Enterprise, you do not pay three separate fees. Our fee is the only fee we charge, and the rest of the money goes to the driver. That leaves more money in the driver's pocket, which means a higher-quality carrier — with a better safety record and lower insurance deductible — accepts your vehicle. We are not the Spirit Airlines of the auto transport industry.
We believe the cheaper the rate, the worse the carrier's rating and the higher his deductible. It is a myth that your car is 100 percent insured. Every cargo policy has a deductible that the carrier must pay before the insurer pays anything. If a carrier does $500 worth of damage to your car but his deductible is $5,000, the insurance company will either kick the claim out or require him to pay that deductible out of pocket. He will not do that. A cheap carrier will not fix your car, and the dispute becomes a civil matter between you and the carrier. That is why we do not chase the cheapest quote like our competitors — it is inviting problems.
That is why we encourage every customer to sort any company's reviews by lowest rating before booking. A high average can hide damaged vehicles, truck fires, or bait-and-switch pricing that other companies have buried. We are proud of our own record, but we still want you to verify it for yourself.
