Lee County · Newcomer Guide

Moving to Fort Myers

The region's working city — hospitals, the airport, spring training and a real downtown.

The honest overview

What Fort Myers is actually like

Fort Myers is where Southwest Florida does its business. It has the region's largest hospitals, the airport, two spring-training stadiums, the county government and a downtown River District that stays busy year-round rather than emptying in summer.

The city sprawls: historic McGregor Boulevard with its royal palms runs southwest toward Sanibel, Colonial and Daniels Boulevards run east to I-75, and the Gateway and Lehigh Acres areas east of the interstate carry a Fort Myers address with a completely different feel and price point.

For newcomers who want year-round life rather than a seasonal one, Fort Myers is usually the practical answer.

Beach access and parking

Fort Myers Beach (Estero Island)

Seven miles of sand along Estero Blvd, still rebuilding after Hurricane Ian. Times Square and Bowditch Point at the north end.

Getting around

Driving, traffic and season

Driving notes

  • Colonial Blvd and Daniels Pkwy are the two main east-west connectors to I-75 (exits 136 and 131).
  • Summerlin Road is the route to the beaches and Sanibel; it backs up badly on weekend mornings.
  • Spring training in March adds heavy traffic near Daniels/Six Mile and Six Mile Cypress.
  • The Midpoint and Cape Coral bridges to Cape Coral are tolled.

What season does

  • Spring training (late February through March) is the single busiest traffic period.
  • Season is less extreme than Naples because the year-round population is larger.
  • Summer storms flood low points on Colonial and Six Mile Cypress quickly; avoid the underpasses in heavy rain.

Your vehicle

Moving a vehicle to Fort Myers

This is the part we deal with daily. It is short on purpose — the point of this guide is the move, not the sales pitch.

  • Fort Myers has the best carrier access in Southwest Florida — wide commercial corridors, I-75 minutes away, and no gate restrictions in most neighborhoods.
  • Because carriers already route through Fort Myers, pickups and deliveries here often dispatch faster and price slightly better than Naples or Marco Island.
  • Terminal service near RSW is available when you are flying in and out and cannot meet the driver.

Once you have your address, get a firm transport quote for door-to-door delivery in Fort Myers. We handle gated communities, narrow streets, barrier-island access and seasonal timing every week.

Request a quote

Fort Myers transport quote

No obligation. A real coordinator replies within one hour — every quote is hand-quoted for accuracy.

Snowbird routes fill fast. Booking three to six weeks ahead helps us secure priority dispatch with our preferred carrier network. Lead times shown are estimates, not guarantees.

Shipping more than one vehicle? (optional)

Add up to 5 additional vehicles and we'll quote them on the same trailer where possible — multi-vehicle moves usually price better per car.

Your information stays with us. If you enter your name, phone, email, and vehicle details on other auto transport websites, your information may be sold to 10 or more companies and you may receive dozens of calls, texts, and emails. When you request a quote here, your information is sent directly to Enterprise Auto Transport — we do not sell or share it with other brokers or lead lists. Learn how to verify you reached us.

Only one discount per household. If several offers apply, your coordinator will apply the largest eligible discount to your hand-quoted rate.

Fraud alert: confirm you are contacting the real Enterprise Auto Transport.

Other companies may use our name in ads. Our only official phone number is:

Deposit red flags: large deposits (half or all the fee up front), demands for Zelle or Venmo, refusal to disclose the broker fee, or pressure to book immediately. A standard broker fee is around $300 per car — if you see these signs, keep calling around.

Call-center red flags: claims to be the “#1 auto transport company” or “largest broker” usually mean a call center, never the same agent, and overseas operations in places like Ukraine, Bulgaria, Pakistan or the Philippines. Check their Yelp reviews to see the real picture.

If someone gives you different contact info, report it here.

Your details are never sold or spammed.

All auto transport is governed by our Terms and Conditions.

FAQ

Common questions about Fort Myers

Is Fort Myers cheaper than Naples?
Generally yes. Comparable homes typically cost less in Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres than in Naples or Bonita Springs, and Lee County property taxes and insurance vary by flood zone rather than by city name.
How far is Fort Myers from RSW?
Southwest Florida International is 15–25 minutes from most of the city via Daniels Parkway or Treeline Avenue.
Which hospital is the trauma center?
Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers is the region's main trauma and tertiary campus within the Lee Health system.
Can you move my boat, golf cart, motorcycle or other toys too?
Yes — boats on trailers, golf carts, motorcycles, ATVs and side-by-sides all move through the same carrier network, and quoting them with your vehicle usually beats booking separate one-off moves. Request a quote for your vehicle and toys and list everything in the notes — we will price it as one coordinated move.
