Lee County · Newcomer Guide
Moving to Estero
Newest of the SWFL municipalities — Coconut Point, FGCU, Hertz Arena and the shortest airport run in the region.
The honest overview
What Estero is actually like
Estero incorporated as a village in 2014 and has grown around three anchors: Coconut Point mall on US-41, Florida Gulf Coast University to the northeast, and Hertz Arena off Ben Hill Griffin Parkway.
It is the most convenient address in Southwest Florida for travelers. RSW is 10–15 minutes north, I-75 exit 123 sits in the middle of town, and Naples and Fort Myers are each about 20 minutes in opposite directions.
Housing skews newer than anywhere else in Lee County: gated communities, coach homes and villas built largely from the 1990s onward, with a heavy seasonal and 55+ population.

Getting around
Driving, traffic and season
Driving notes
- US-41 through Coconut Point is the main congestion point in season.
- Ben Hill Griffin Parkway is the fastest north-south alternative to I-75 between Estero and the airport.
- Corkscrew Road east of I-75 carries heavy construction traffic; expect ongoing widening.
- Airport arrivals: Treeline Ave connects Estero directly to RSW without the interstate.
What season does
- Many communities are 50%+ seasonal; October–December arrivals and March–May departures dominate the moving calendar.
- Hertz Arena events and FGCU games add localized evening traffic.
- Summer is genuinely quiet — the best time to schedule contractors or a move-in.
Your vehicle
Moving a vehicle to Estero
This is the part we deal with daily. It is short on purpose — the point of this guide is the move, not the sales pitch.
- Estero's proximity to I-75 exit 123 makes it one of the cheapest and fastest SWFL addresses to dispatch to.
- Most gated communities here allow carriers with advance gate notice; coach-home clusters may require staging at the amenity lot.
- Flying into RSW the same week your car arrives works well here — the airport is 10 minutes away.
