A PCS move is a deadline, not a delivery

Orders do not move. Everything else has to bend around them. That is the whole difference between a normal auto transport booking and a military one, and it is why we plan backward from your report date instead of forward from today.

Inspection and custody

Photograph the truck, the plate, the driver's CDL and every panel of your vehicle before loading. The Bill of Lading is the legal record of condition at pickup and delivery.

Overseas and OCONUS legs

For Hawaii, Alaska and overseas orders we deliver to the port terminal and coordinate the ocean leg timing so you are not paying storage while you wait for a sailing.

Before pickup

PCS vehicle prep checklist

Ten minutes of preparation prevents the two problems that actually derail PCS shipments: a driver who cannot load the vehicle, and a condition dispute at delivery.

Have your report date and both installations confirmed before you book
Give a 3–5 day pickup window instead of one hard date — it lowers the rate and protects the schedule
Remove all personal belongings; carriers are not licensed to haul household goods
Remove or disable toll transponders — we are not responsible for tolls charged in transit
Leave a quarter tank of fuel, no more
Bring military ID and, if a spouse or family member is releasing the vehicle, a power of attorney
Note lift kits, oversized tires, crew cab or long bed configurations — they change which trucks can load you
Photograph everything at pickup and again at delivery, before you sign

Hawaii, Alaska and overseas orders

Anything with an ocean leg runs on a sailing schedule, not a truck schedule. Weekly cutoffs mean a missed date costs a week, so the booking sequence matters more than the price.

FAQ

PCS car shipping questions

Do you offer a military discount on car shipping?

Yes. Active duty, reserve, National Guard, veterans and their immediate family get a military rate on every service we offer, open or enclosed. Mention it when you request a quote so it is applied before the carrier is dispatched.

How far in advance should I book a PCS vehicle shipment?

Three to six weeks for a summer PCS. May through August is the busiest window in the industry, and installations like Fort Liberty, Fort Cavazos and JBLM absorb enormous volume in that period. Outside peak season, two to four weeks is usually enough.

Can the carrier pick up my car on base?

Sometimes, but plan on an off-post meeting point. A 75-foot carrier cannot maneuver most housing loops, and gate access rules change without notice. We normally stage at a nearby commercial lot, which is faster for everyone.

Can my spouse release the vehicle if I have already reported?

Yes, with written authorization. Any adult you designate can release or receive the vehicle as long as they can present ID and sign the Bill of Lading. Use our vehicle release authorization form so there is no dispute at the curb.

What happens if my orders change after I book?

Tell us immediately. If the vehicle has not been dispatched, we reschedule at no cost. If a carrier is already assigned and en route, we work with the driver to adjust — but there may be a dry-run fee from the carrier if they arrive and there is nothing to load.

Is my vehicle insured during a PCS move?

The motor carrier's cargo policy covers the vehicle in transit — $250,000 cargo coverage on open carriers and up to $2,000,000 cargo coverage on enclosed carriers. Enterprise Auto Transport is a licensed broker, not the insurer, so claims are filed with the carrier that had custody. We help you file and we stay on it until it is resolved.

Can you ship a car to Hawaii or Alaska on PCS orders?

Yes. Both involve an ocean leg. For Hawaii we truck to a West Coast or East Coast port and sail to Honolulu with optional neighbor-island relay. For Alaska we truck to Tacoma and sail to the Port of Alaska in Anchorage. Sailing schedules are weekly, so missing a cutoff costs a full week.

Do I have to be there for pickup and delivery?

Someone does. The Bill of Lading has to be signed at both ends by a person who can inspect the vehicle. If that cannot be you, designate someone in writing before the driver arrives.
