Car shipping between Wilmette, Illinois and Southwest Florida
Enterprise Auto Transport arranges door-to-door vehicle transportation from Wilmette to the Gulf Coast of Florida, and back north again in the spring. Wilmette is the first North Shore village north of Evanston, about 14 miles from the Loop in Cook County's New Trier Township, bordered by Kenilworth to the north, Skokie and Glenview to the west and Lake Michigan to the east. Customers on this route are mostly seasonal residents and second-home owners, along with relocating households, families shipping a vehicle to a student or a parent, and private buyers and sellers moving a car between the two regions.
We are an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since February 2012. We arrange transportation with qualified motor carriers. Our home base is in Naples, at the receiving end of this corridor. There is no Enterprise Auto Transport office in Wilmette; the same Naples-based team handles the shipment from quote through delivery.

The Wilmette end
Picking up a vehicle in Wilmette
Wilmette is flat and gridded, which makes it one of the easier North Shore villages for a full-size carrier - with two genuine exceptions: the village's own heavy-truck rules east of Green Bay Road, and the at-grade railroad crossings along it.
Highway and arterial access
Lake Avenue is the working truck route here: it meets the Edens Expressway (I-94) at the village's western edge and runs straight east through Wilmette, with I-294 a short hop beyond. Skokie Boulevard and Ridge Road carry north–south traffic on the west side, Green Bay Road runs alongside the railroad through the middle, and Sheridan Road follows the lakefront. Carriers work Lake Avenue, Skokie Boulevard and Ridge Road by preference and treat the eastern streets as destinations rather than through routes.
The village's heavy-truck rules
Wilmette runs its own overweight and over-dimension movement permit through the police department, and the village's permit form states plainly that there are currently no approved routes for overweight vehicles east of Green Bay Road. The same document tells low-slung trucks to use the Wilmette Avenue railroad crossing and to avoid the crossings at Linden Avenue, Oakwood Avenue and Lake Avenue. A standard legal-weight car carrier is not an overweight movement and needs no permit, but those instructions are a clear signal about where heavy equipment belongs in this village, and we plan pickups accordingly.
Green Bay Road and the level crossings
The Union Pacific North line runs beside Green Bay Road and crosses it at grade at Wilmette Avenue, Central Avenue and Lake Avenue, each with signal preemption tied to the gates. Unlike villages further north, where the road bridges the tracks, the issue in Wilmette is not structure weight - it is queueing. A 75-foot rig will not stage anywhere it could end up stopped across a live crossing, so loading is arranged on a side street or a lot rather than at the curb on Green Bay Road.
Neighborhood character
The west side toward Skokie Boulevard, Hibbard Road and the Ridge Road corridor has wider streets, deeper setbacks and driveway aprons a driver can use. The older blocks between Green Bay Road and Sheridan Road - the village centre around Wilmette Avenue, and the streets toward Gillson Park and Wilmette Harbor - are narrower, more parked-up and shaded by mature parkway trees. Wilmette also maintains a formal traffic-calming program on local streets, so some residential blocks carry devices and restrictions designed to keep through traffic out. None of that forbids a pickup; it simply decides where the truck stops.
Lakefront buildings and Plaza del Lago
The stretch of Sheridan Road around Plaza del Lago - the 1928 shopping centre at 1515 Sheridan that grew out of the old "No Man's Land" strip - includes the handful of high-rise condominium buildings east of Sheridan, and it is a different pickup problem from a single-family street: limited standing room, managed driveways and building rules about commercial vehicles and hours. We confirm the building's requirements before dispatch instead of discovering them with a driver idling outside.
Alternate meeting points
When the truck cannot safely reach the door we settle a nearby spot in advance: Edens Plaza at Lake Avenue and Skokie Boulevard, a wide commercial frontage on Skokie Boulevard or Ridge Road, or the park-and-ride at the CTA Purple Line's Linden terminal at 349 Linden Avenue, which has several hundred parking spaces and easy in-and-out. All are a few minutes from any Wilmette address, cost nothing extra, and are agreed before the carrier is dispatched.
Winter matters on this lakefront. Lake-effect snow off Lake Michigan, plow windrows that narrow already-tight east-side streets, and overnight parking rules during snow events all affect loading, and a carrier will not load from an unplowed residential block. Clearing your driveway apron and a stretch of curb often makes the difference between loading that morning and rescheduling the driver.
Ship the car, fly down
Wilmette airports and the seasonal pattern
Almost nobody on the North Shore drives 1,400 miles twice a year. They send the vehicle and fly.
From Wilmette, O'Hare International (ORD) is a straightforward run west on Lake Avenue to the Edens and I-294, and Chicago Midway (MDW) is the south-side alternative; Chicago Executive Airport (PWK) in Wheeling handles private aviation. In Florida the arrival airport is nearly always Southwest Florida International (RSW) in Fort Myers, with Punta Gorda (PGD) as the low-cost option for Cape Coral and north Lee County. Locally, the Metra Union Pacific North station on Green Bay Road and the CTA Purple Line terminal at Linden Avenue both make it easy to be without a car for the few days between release and your flight.
The pattern is the same every season: release the vehicle in Wilmette a few days before you travel, fly with luggage only, and have the car delivered at or shortly after you land. Enterprise Auto Transport does not provide airline or airport transportation - we time the vehicle around your flight, and someone you authorize can release or receive it if the dates do not line up exactly. If you are landing at RSW, our RSW airport auto transport page covers that hand-off in detail.
Southwest Florida
Where Wilmette vehicles are delivered on the Gulf Coast
Southwest Florida is the Gulf Coast service region covering Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties. The cities below are communities inside that region, not separate service areas.
Naples
Collier County, and the heaviest concentration of private and golf communities on this corridor. Guard-gated entries, narrow interior lanes and low canopy are the norm, so many deliveries are staged at or just outside the gate unless the association clears the truck.
Bonita Springs
South Lee County, between Naples and Estero. Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing and Spanish Wells are gated; the Bonita Beach Road and US-41 frontage gives a carrier easy staging when a community will not admit it.
Estero
Right off I-75 at Corkscrew Road and one of the simplest stops on the route. Coconut Point and the Corkscrew commercial frontage work well as meeting points for gated addresses.
Fort Myers
Lee County's hub and the closest major delivery point to RSW. Parts of the McGregor Boulevard banyan canopy are genuinely too low for a full-size open carrier, so those deliveries are often staged nearby.
Cape Coral
A very large grid of canal-front residential streets. The arterials are easy; many interior streets are narrow with tight cul-de-sacs, which can move a delivery to Del Prado or Pine Island Road.
Marco Island
South of Naples over the Jolley Bridge on SR-951. Condominium towers and tight island streets mean deliveries are frequently staged at a larger lot, agreed before the driver heads over.
Sanibel Island
Reached over the Sanibel Causeway from Fort Myers. Island roads, the causeway toll and limited turning room mean a full-size carrier often hands off on the mainland side by prior arrangement.

Northbound: Southwest Florida back to Wilmette
This corridor runs both ways. Enterprise Auto Transport arranges northbound vehicle transportation from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and the rest of Southwest Florida back to Wilmette and the surrounding North Shore each spring. Northbound demand concentrates in March, April and early May, and the access questions simply reverse: the Florida gate or condominium on the way out, and the Wilmette block, crossing or building on the way in.

Enterprise Auto Transport is a broker, not a motor carrier. We evaluate carriers and arrange your shipment; a separate, federally licensed trucking company physically moves the vehicle, carries the cargo insurance on it and issues the Bill of Lading. You should always know which carrier has your car.
