Snowbird Toy Transport from Chicago
Harbor boats, suburban RVs and city-access constraints.
Overview
What this looks like in Chicago
Chicago is two different pickup problems in one market. Downtown and the lakefront neighborhoods have genuine truck access limits; the collar suburbs are straightforward. Which one you are in changes the plan more than what you are shipping.
We are a licensed transport broker: we arrange the move with a qualified motor carrier and coordinate it end to end. We do not own the trucks.
Harbor season drives boat timing
Chicago Park District harbors run on a defined season, and boats come out on a schedule rather than whenever the owner feels like it. If your haul-out date is fixed, book transport around it, because the yard is not going to store the boat indefinitely while a truck is found.
City access is a real constraint
Residential permit parking, narrow side streets, alley-only access and posted truck restrictions all affect where a carrier can physically hook up. Many Chicago pickups happen at a marina, a storage yard in the suburbs, or an agreed meeting point on an arterial.
Suburban storage is the norm for RVs
Very few Chicago RVs live in the city. Naperville, Joliet, Elgin and the outer collar counties hold most of the storage, and those lots are where most tow-away pickups actually happen.
Equipment
What actually moves out of this market
Lake Michigan boats
Larger and taller than an inland fishing boat. Radar arches and hardtops routinely push total height past 13'6", so measure to the top before you assume it tows.
Travel trailers and fifth wheels
Suburban storage lots make pickup easy; the constraint is capacity in October, not access.
Motorcycles
High volume out of this market. Enclosed is the common request for touring bikes headed to Florida for the winter.
Golf carts
Typically moving to a Florida community, sometimes to Arizona. Lifted carts from this market often exceed standard deck height.
Utility and cargo trailers
Frequently loaded with the rest of the seasonal move. Contents are usually not covered as cargo, so ask before you fill it.
Corridors
Routes we run on this lane
| Route | What to know |
|---|---|
| Chicago → Naples / Fort Myers | About 1,300 miles on a dense, well-covered corridor. One of the easier long lanes to schedule, even in season. |
| Chicago → Tampa / Sarasota | Straight I-65/I-75 routing. Common for boat moves headed to west coast marinas. |
| Chicago → Fort Lauderdale / Boca Raton | East coast Florida, roughly 1,375 miles. Delivery into gated coastal communities usually needs advance clearance. |
| Chicago → Phoenix / Scottsdale | About 1,750 miles. Solid RV and cart volume, and a lane where spring northbound capacity gets scarce in April. |
| Chicago → Palm Springs / Coachella Valley | Longest of the common corridors from this market. Plan six weeks in peak season. |
Planning
Seasonal timing and local access
Timing
- Book fall southbound moves by early September if your harbor haul-out is in late September or October.
- Spring northbound is heaviest from mid-March through April as Florida seasonal leases end.
- Winter pickups from Chicago are possible but weather-dependent; ice affects loading, not just driving.
- If your boat is being pulled and shrink-wrapped, decide before wrapping — wrap intended for storage usually has to come off or be reinforced for transport.
Pickup considerations
- Expect a meeting point rather than a curbside hookup anywhere near the lakefront or in a permit-parking neighborhood.
- Alley access is not truck access. If your only approach is an alley, tell us at quote time.
- Marina and yard pickups need a written release so the facility can hand your equipment to the driver.
- Toll routing and city truck restrictions can shift a pickup window by hours. Build in slack on the day.

Questions
Chicago transport FAQs
Can a truck pick up at my Chicago address?
Sometimes, but often not. Permit parking, narrow streets and truck restrictions push many pickups to a nearby lot or a suburban storage facility. We work that out before dispatch, not on the day.
My boat has a radar arch — does that matter?
Considerably. Total height on the trailer including the arch decides the routing and whether the load is over 13'6". Measure it, do not estimate.
Can you pick up directly from my marina after haul-out?
Usually yes. Give us the yard name and the haul-out date, and authorize the yard to release the boat to the carrier.
Should my motorcycle go open or enclosed to Florida?
For a chrome-heavy touring bike, most owners choose enclosed. For a well-used commuter, open transport is a reasonable way to save money.

Not sure what kind of hauler you need?
Don't worry. You don't have to know whether you need a power-only truck, flatbed, enclosed trailer, RV driver or specialized carrier. Just tell us what you're moving, its approximate size, where it's going and when you need it moved. We'll review the shipment and determine what type of transportation is appropriate.
Please note: Anything that rolls on its own wheels must be roadworthy before pickup. The customer is responsible for repairs — tires, bearings, brakes, lights — and for towing and repair costs if the unit becomes disabled in transit.
