Car shipping between Lake Forest, Illinois and Southwest Florida
Enterprise Auto Transport arranges door-to-door vehicle transportation from Lake Forest to the Gulf Coast of Florida, and back north again in the spring. Lake Forest sits in Lake County, about 30 miles north of downtown Chicago, north of Lake Bluff's neighbours Highland Park and Highwood and south of North Chicago, with Mettawa and Libertyville to the west. Unlike the Cook County villages further south, it was platted in 1857 as a planned community laid out around its ravines, and that layout still decides much of how a car carrier works here. Customers on this route are mostly seasonal residents and second-home owners, along with relocating households, families shipping a vehicle to a student or a parent, and private buyers and sellers.
We are an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since February 2012. We arrange transportation with qualified motor carriers. Our home base is in Naples, at the receiving end of this corridor. There is no Enterprise Auto Transport office in Lake Forest; the same Naples-based team handles the shipment from quote through delivery.

The Lake Forest end
Collecting a vehicle in Lake Forest
Two things set this city apart for a transport driver: a written list of streets closed to through trucks, and a genuinely unusual number of posted, narrow ravine bridges on the east side.
Highways and the way in
I-94, the Tri-State Tollway, runs along the western edge of the city, with untolled US-41 parallel to it just inside - many carriers prefer US-41 and come east on Deerpath Road. Route 60 (Townline Road) and Route 176 are the other east–west entries, and Route 43 (Waukegan Road) carries local north–south traffic on the west side. Everything a full-size rig does here starts from one of those, not from the residential grid.
No-through-truck streets
The city code lists specific streets as no-through-truck routes: Conway Road, Everett Road, Gage Lane, Green Bay Road, Old Elm Road, Ridge Road and Telegraph Road for their entire length in the city, plus Oakwood Avenue between Woodland Road and Wisconsin Avenue and Woodland Road between Western Avenue and Oakwood Avenue. That does not stop a truck making a legitimate local delivery, but it removes most of the obvious shortcuts and is a large part of why the route a driver takes here looks indirect.
Ravines, bridges and posted limits
Lake Forest has close to 13 miles of ravines within city limits and roughly three and a half miles of Lake Michigan frontage, and the east-side street network crosses those ravines on small municipal bridges. Several carry real restrictions: Lake Road over a ravine is posted at 23 tons on a deck about 18 feet curb to curb, Ringwood Road South at 17 tons, Mayflower at 36 tons, and Walden Lane measures roughly 17 feet wide. A loaded multi-car carrier will not use those, and there is no negotiating with a posted structure - we plan the loading point around them instead.
Estate lots and private drives
Much of the east side and the older estate sections are deep, wooded parcels reached by long private drives, some shared between several houses, many with mature canopy right over the pavement and no turning circle at the end. A car that a driver can walk out to a public street loads easily; a drive that a 75-foot rig would have to reverse out of does not. The city's traffic code also lets an owner or association request that the police department regulate traffic and access on private roads, so permission can be a separate question from physical clearance. We check both before dispatch.
Downtown, Market Square and the stations
The central business district along Western Avenue - Market Square, laid out in 1916 and often called the first planned shopping centre in the country, with the Metra UP-N Lake Forest station beside it - is a poor place to stage a carrier: historic frontage, angled parking and constant turnover. Lake Forest also has a second Metra station on the Milwaukee District North line on the west side. Both are useful to you for getting around without a car for a few days; neither is where the truck should be.
Where we meet instead
When the door is not workable we agree a nearby point in advance: the Route 60 office and Conway Park corridor near the Tri-State, which is built for commercial traffic; the Waukegan Road retail frontage at Sunset Corners or Forest Square on the west side; or a wide public lot along the Route 60 or US-41 approach. Each is minutes from an east-side address, avoids every posted bridge, and costs nothing extra.
Winter compounds all of it. Snow on a shaded ravine road, plowed windrows on an already narrow bridge deck and a slick private drive on a grade are each enough for a driver to decline to load at the residence, and rightly so. Clearing a driveway apron and a stretch of public curb frequently makes the difference between loading that morning and moving the appointment.
Ship the car, fly down
Lake Forest airports and the seasonal pattern
Very few people here drive 1,400 miles twice a year. They send the vehicle and fly.
O'Hare International (ORD) is about half an hour south down the Tri-State from Lake Forest and handles nearly all of this traffic; Chicago Executive (PWK) in Wheeling covers private aviation, and Milwaukee Mitchell (MKE) is a genuine northern alternative from Lake County that is not in play for the villages further south. At the Florida end the arrival airport is almost always Southwest Florida International (RSW) in Fort Myers, with Punta Gorda (PGD) serving Cape Coral and north Lee County. Both Metra lines through the city make the few carless days between release and your flight easy to manage.
The rhythm is the same each season: release the vehicle in Lake Forest a few days before you travel, fly with luggage only, and take delivery at or shortly after you land. Enterprise Auto Transport does not provide airline or airport transportation - we time the vehicle around your flight, and someone you authorize can release or receive it if the dates do not align. If you are landing at RSW, our RSW airport auto transport page covers that hand-off.
Southwest Florida
Where Lake Forest vehicles are delivered on the Gulf Coast
Southwest Florida is the Gulf Coast service region covering Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties. The cities below are communities inside that region, not separate service areas.
Naples
Collier County, and the densest concentration of private and golf communities on this corridor. Guard-gated entries, narrow interior lanes and low canopy are the norm, so many deliveries are staged at or just outside the gate unless the association clears the truck.
Bonita Springs
South Lee County, between Naples and Estero. Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing and Spanish Wells are gated; the Bonita Beach Road and US-41 frontage gives a carrier straightforward staging when a community will not admit it.
Estero
Directly off I-75 at Corkscrew Road and one of the easiest stops on the route. Coconut Point and the Corkscrew commercial frontage serve well as meeting points for gated addresses.
Fort Myers
Lee County's hub and the closest major delivery point to RSW. Sections of the McGregor Boulevard banyan canopy are genuinely too low for a full-size open carrier, so those deliveries are often staged nearby.
Cape Coral
A very large grid of canal-front residential streets. Arterials are easy; many interior streets are narrow with tight cul-de-sacs, which can move a delivery to Del Prado or Pine Island Road.
Marco Island
South of Naples over the Jolley Bridge on SR-951. Condominium towers and tight island streets mean deliveries are frequently staged at a larger lot, agreed before the driver heads over.
Sanibel Island
Reached over the Sanibel Causeway from Fort Myers. Island roads, the causeway toll and limited turning room mean a full-size carrier often hands off on the mainland side by prior arrangement.

Both directions
Northbound: Southwest Florida back to Lake Forest
This corridor runs both ways. Enterprise Auto Transport arranges northbound vehicle transportation from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and the rest of Southwest Florida back to Lake Forest and Lake County each spring. Northbound demand concentrates in March, April and early May, and the access questions simply invert: the Florida gate or condominium on the way out, and the ravine bridge, private drive or posted street on the way in.

Enterprise Auto Transport is a broker, not a motor carrier. We evaluate carriers and arrange your shipment; a separate, federally licensed trucking company physically moves the vehicle, carries the cargo insurance on it and issues the Bill of Lading. You should always know which carrier has your car.
