Enclosed carriers usually carry $1 million in cargo coverage, but full insurance is a myth. Learn what is actually covered and how deductibles work.
Most enclosed auto carriers on our network carry $1,000,000 in cargo insurance. That is four times the typical $250,000 limit on an open carrier, and it is one of the main reasons collectors and exotic owners choose enclosed transport.
But a policy limit is not the same as a blank check. Every cargo policy has exclusions, deductibles, and conditions. The carrier's insurance covers damage caused by the carrier's negligence during transit. It does not cover pre-existing damage, personal items left inside the car, or mechanical failures unrelated to transport.
The idea that a car is fully insured is a myth. Every policy has a deductible, and if the deductible is higher than the claim amount, the carrier may be left paying out of pocket. A carrier with a $5,000 deductible is unlikely to file a claim for $500 in damage, which means the repair may not happen through insurance at all.
This is why we do not chase the cheapest carrier. A cheap rate often means a carrier with a high deductible, thin coverage, or a poor safety record. If your car is damaged, the difference between a quality carrier and a budget carrier is whether the claim is paid or becomes a civil dispute.
Request the certificate of insurance directly. Confirm the cargo limit, the deductible, and whether the policy is active for your shipment dates. A reputable broker should provide this without hesitation.
At Enterprise Auto Transport, we verify carrier insurance before dispatch and send you the driver's direct contact information. We also recommend photographing every panel at pickup and delivery so any new damage is documented immediately.
If you are shipping a high-value vehicle, the insurance conversation matters as much as the price. Use our Get a Quote form and ask for an enclosed carrier with a certificate of insurance included. We will confirm the coverage before any truck is dispatched.
