North suburbs ↔ Southwest Florida

Northbrook Auto Transport to Southwest Florida

Enterprise Auto Transport arranges vehicle transportation between Northbrook, Illinois and Southwest Florida - Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island and Sanibel Island - southbound for the season and northbound again in the spring.

Car shipping between Northbrook, Illinois and Southwest Florida

Northbrook has something no other origin on this corridor has: the interchange itself. The Edens Expressway does not continue north past the village - it ends here, and the I-94 Edens Spur Tollway carries the route west across Northbrook to meet the Tri-State Tollway (I-294). A carrier collecting in Northbrook is therefore not driving to the expressway network so much as loading inside it, with Waukegan Road and Pfingsten Road bridging over the Spur and Lake Cook Road running along the Cook County line at the northern edge. For a 75-foot rig heading 1,410 miles to the Gulf Coast, that is about as clean a start as Chicagoland offers.

We are an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since February 2012. We arrange transportation with qualified motor carriers, and our home base is in Naples, at the receiving end of this route. There is no Enterprise Auto Transport office in Northbrook; the same Naples-based team handles your shipment from quote through delivery.

The Northbrook end

Collecting a vehicle in Northbrook

Door-to-door means we ask the carrier to load at your address. Whether that happens is decided by the assigned driver, looking at your street against the truck and trailer actually on the job - not by a policy written in advance.

Loading inside the interchange

The Edens Spur runs east–west through Northbrook and links the Tri-State to the north end of the Edens, and the I-294 junction sits just off Lake Cook Road. The practical effect is that no part of the village is a long crawl from a ramp, and a driver can usually approach from whichever side your address favours. Dundee Road (IL-68) and Willow Road are the two arterials that carry that traffic across the village; nearly every Northbrook pickup is planned from one of them.

The north–south routes that matter

Waukegan Road (IL-43) and Skokie Boulevard handle the eastern side, Sanders Road and Pfingsten Road the west, and each is a proper arterial with room for a long trailer to stage and turn. Shermer Road and Techny Road are the local connectors into the village centre and are a different proposition - narrower, with the railroad across both. We treat the arterials as the working network and the local roads as the last few blocks.

Downtown Northbrook

The centre around Shermer and Meadow Roads is the tightest part of the village: an older compact core with kerb parking, recently rebuilt sidewalks, crosswalks and landscaping from the Village's downtown improvement programme, and the Metra line immediately alongside. Short enclosed trailers and flatbeds work here comfortably. A full-size multi-car carrier will often load a couple of blocks out where the kerb is clear - a driver's practical choice, not a restriction.

Crossings at Shermer and Techny

Metra's Milwaukee District North line runs through Northbrook with the station on Shermer Road, and the Village's own notices document at-grade crossings at Shermer Road and Techny Road - both closed completely at points in recent years while Metra rebuilt them, with traffic detoured by way of Willow and Waukegan. For a truck this is waiting time and occasional detours, which is a timing question. It is not a clearance question, and we do not describe it as one.

Large lots, cul-de-sacs and driveways

Northbrook's residential fabric ranges from streets of modest post-war houses near the centre to larger-lot properties further out and whole subdivisions built around cul-de-sacs. Bigger lots do not automatically mean easier loading: the street is often fine while the driveway is too narrow, too steep or too enclosed by planting for a loaded trailer, so the car is walked down to the kerb. Cul-de-sac streets are the other common case - comfortable to drive into, with nowhere for a long rig to turn back out.

Where we meet instead

When the door is not workable we settle a point in advance: the Skokie Boulevard and Lake Cook Road retail area, the Dundee Road commercial frontage, or the wide, open business-park pavement along Sanders Road and Willow Road. Each keeps the truck out of the downtown grid and away from the crossings, is a few minutes from any Northbrook address, and costs nothing extra.

One local habit helps more than anything else: tell us up front which part of Northbrook you are in - downtown near the tracks, a cul-de-sac, a larger lot with a long private drive, or out on an arterial. It changes which carrier we look for and what equipment suits the job, and it is far easier to solve at booking than on the morning of pickup.

Ship the car, fly down

Northbrook airports and the seasonal pattern

Hardly anyone here drives 1,410 miles twice a year. They send the vehicle and fly.

From Northbrook the realistic commercial airport is O'Hare, reached straight down the Tri-State without crossing the city. Chicago Executive Airport sits just west in Wheeling and is genuinely the nearest field, but it serves private and corporate aviation rather than scheduled airlines - relevant if you fly privately, not otherwise. Midway means a long run through or around Chicago and is rarely worth it from here. At the Florida end you are almost always landing at Southwest Florida International (RSW) in Fort Myers, with Punta Gorda (PGD) serving Cape Coral and north Lee County.

The sequence is the same each season: release the vehicle in Northbrook a few days before you travel, fly with luggage only, and take delivery at or shortly after you land. Enterprise Auto Transport does not provide flights or airport transportation - we schedule the vehicle around your travel, and someone you authorize can release or receive it if the dates do not line up. If you are landing at RSW, our RSW airport auto transport page covers that hand-off.

Southwest Florida

Where Northbrook vehicles are delivered on the Gulf Coast

Southwest Florida is the Gulf Coast service region covering Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties. The cities below are communities inside that region, not separate service areas.

Naples

Collier County, with the heaviest concentration of private and golf communities on this corridor. Guard-gated entries and narrow interior lanes mean many deliveries are staged at or just outside the gate unless the association clears the truck in advance.

Bonita Springs

South Lee County, between Naples and Estero. Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing and Spanish Wells are gated; the Bonita Beach Road and US-41 frontage gives a driver simple staging when a community will not admit a carrier.

Estero

Directly off I-75 at Corkscrew Road, one of the quickest stops on the route. Coconut Point and the Corkscrew commercial frontage work well as meeting points for gated addresses.

Fort Myers

Lee County's hub and the nearest major delivery point to RSW. Parts of the McGregor Boulevard banyan canopy are genuinely too low for a full-size open carrier, so those deliveries are often staged nearby.

Cape Coral

A very large grid of canal-front residential streets. The arterials are easy; many interior streets are narrow with tight cul-de-sacs, which can move a delivery to Del Prado or Pine Island Road.

Marco Island

South of Naples over the Jolley Bridge on SR-951. Condominium towers and tight island streets mean deliveries are frequently staged at a larger lot agreed before the driver heads over.

Sanibel Island

Reached over the Sanibel Causeway from Fort Myers. Island roads, the causeway toll and limited turning room mean a full-size carrier often hands off on the mainland side by prior arrangement.

Both directions

Northbound: Southwest Florida back to Northbrook

The return leg gets the same attention as the trip south. Each spring we arrange transportation from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island and Sanibel back to Northbrook, with bookings concentrated from March into early May. The access questions simply swap ends - a guard gate or a condominium service entrance in Florida on the way out, and a downtown street, a cul-de-sac or a Metra crossing in Northbrook on the way in. Spring has one local advantage: with the Edens Spur running through the village, a northbound driver can reach a delivery point on Dundee, Willow or Skokie without ever working through the village centre.

Enterprise Auto Transport is a broker, not a motor carrier. We evaluate carriers and arrange your shipment; a separate, federally licensed trucking company physically moves the vehicle, carries the cargo insurance on it and issues the Bill of Lading. Questions

Northbrook to Southwest Florida, answered

How does Northbrook to Florida car shipping work?
You give us the two addresses and the window you have in mind and we quote the lane. When you accept, we place the vehicle with a qualified motor carrier already running Chicagoland to the Gulf Coast. The assigned driver contacts you to settle the loading spot, vehicle condition is photographed and signed on the bill of lading at pickup, and the same inspection is repeated at delivery. Enterprise Auto Transport is an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker (USDOT #2273104, MC #774106), BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since 2012. We arrange the transportation and manage the shipment; we are not the trucking company, and we keep no office in Northbrook.
Can you pick up directly from my Northbrook home?
That is what we ask for on every booking, and in most of Northbrook it works. The village is unusually well placed for long-haul equipment because the Edens Spur crosses it and ties the Tri-State to the Edens right here, so a driver is rarely far from a ramp. The final judgement belongs to the assigned carrier, who looks at the street in front of your house against the truck and trailer actually on the job.
What happens if the carrier cannot safely enter my street?
You and the driver agree a nearby accessible point before dispatch rather than sorting it out at the kerb on the morning. The deciding factors are physical and ordinary: how wide the street is, how many cars are parked on it, whether there is room to turn a long trailer around, traffic, a rail crossing in the way, active roadwork, branches hanging over the pavement, the length of the equipment, and whether stopping and loading there is legal. Northbrook does not have a village rule banning car carriers from residential streets, and we do not claim one.
Where would we meet instead?
Usually a large open commercial lot on one of the arterials - the Skokie Boulevard and Lake Cook Road retail area, the Dundee Road commercial frontage, or the office and business parks along Sanders Road and Willow Road, which have some of the widest and emptiest pavement in the village. Anywhere in Northbrook is a few minutes from at least one of those, and meeting nearby costs nothing extra.
Which parts of Northbrook are easier or harder for a full-size transporter?
The commercial and office corridors along Willow Road, Sanders Road, Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard are the most straightforward - wide lanes, generous turning radii and large lots. Downtown Northbrook around Shermer and Meadow Roads is the tightest part of the village: a compact older centre with kerb parking, recently rebuilt sidewalks and crosswalks, and the railroad immediately alongside. Larger-lot residential areas are usually fine on the street but can have driveways too narrow or steep for a loaded trailer, and cul-de-sac subdivisions are the common case where a long rig can drive in but has nowhere to turn. None of that is a prohibition - it decides whether the truck loads at the kerb or two blocks away.
Do the railroad crossings in Northbrook affect a pickup?
They affect timing, not clearance. Metra's Milwaukee District North line runs through the village with the station on Shermer Road, and the Village's own notices document at-grade crossings at Shermer Road and Techny Road - both have been closed outright for Metra crossing rebuilds in recent years, with detours routed around by way of Willow and Waukegan. A truck at an at-grade crossing waits for the train - that is a scheduling matter and nothing to do with height limits. We make no claim of a posted clearance restriction in Northbrook because we have not verified one.
Does construction get in the way?
Rarely in a way that stops a pickup. The Village has been investing in the downtown Shermer Road streetscape and has resurfaced the Shermer corridor with a shared-use sidepath, and further downtown phases are programmed. Because the specifics change season to season, we confirm the current pattern with the carrier before dispatch and, if the centre of the village is disrupted, load from Dundee Road, Willow Road or the Sanders Road side instead.
Can a vehicle be collected while I fly to Florida separately?
Yes, and it is the normal arrangement for seasonal residents. O'Hare is the practical commercial airport from Northbrook - a short run down the Tri-State - while Chicago Executive Airport in neighbouring Wheeling is genuinely close but serves private and corporate aviation rather than scheduled flights, and Midway means crossing the whole metropolitan area. You release the car a few days before you travel and take delivery at or shortly after you land at Southwest Florida International (RSW) or Punta Gorda (PGD). Enterprise Auto Transport does not provide flights or airport transportation - we time the vehicle around yours, and someone you authorize can release or receive it.
How far ahead should I arrange seasonal transportation?
Three to six weeks for a southbound move between mid-October and December, and the same for a northbound move in March, April or early May. Those two windows are when the Chicagoland corridor is busiest in each direction. Outside them, one to two weeks of notice is usually enough.
Can you ship my vehicle from Naples back to Northbrook?
Yes - northbound is half of this lane, not an afterthought. We arrange transportation from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island, Sanibel Island and the rest of Southwest Florida back to Northbrook, booked exactly the same way, with demand concentrated from March through early May.
Is open or enclosed transport better?
For most everyday vehicles, open transport is the right answer - it is what the majority of sedans, SUVs and trucks on this corridor travel on, and it is the more available and more economical option. Enclosed makes sense for collector, exotic, classic, low-clearance or high-value vehicles, or when you simply want the car shielded from road spray, weather and debris. An expensive house in Northbrook is not itself a reason to pay for enclosed - the vehicle and your own preference are.
Can you transport luxury or collector vehicles?
Yes. Those move on enclosed equipment with a carrier whose cargo coverage we have confirmed is adequate for the declared value, and with soft-tie or wheel-strap securement where the car calls for it. A low-clearance vehicle is matched to a trailer with a lift gate or low-angle ramps rather than loaded on a steep approach.
How long does Illinois to Southwest Florida transportation generally take?
Roughly three to five days of driving once the vehicle is loaded, for about 1,410 road miles. That is transit time, not the whole timeline - the pickup window comes first, and weather, traffic and federal hours-of-service limits all move the arrival. We give you realistic ranges and keep you updated rather than quoting an hour on a date.
When will I know my actual pickup date?
When a specific carrier is assigned to your shipment. Until then you have a booking window rather than a fixed date, because the date depends on the truck actually running the lane. The assigned driver confirms the day and calls ahead with an arrival window, and any change to the loading location is settled in that conversation.
What should I do before the driver arrives?
Wash the car so existing marks are visible at inspection, leave about a quarter tank of fuel, remove toll transponders and personal belongings, fold the mirrors, note any leaks or mechanical quirks, and have a set of keys ready. In winter, clear the driveway apron and a stretch of kerb - a plowed windrow removes the space a driver needs to walk the vehicle onto the ramps even when the street looks passable. Our vehicle preparation guide covers the rest.
How does carrier verification work?
Before dispatch we check active USDOT and MC operating authority and the carrier's safety record, and we obtain a certificate of insurance issued directly by the insurer rather than forwarded by the driver. Condition is documented and signed at pickup and again at delivery on the bill of lading.
How is the price set?
Your quote is an estimate for the lane based on the vehicle, the transport type, the route and the season. The carrier portion of the cost is established when a carrier actually accepts the shipment, which is why an honest quote is a range rather than a guaranteed carrier rate. We tell you what we see in the market and what the flat brokerage fee is, and you decide before anything is dispatched. Use the quote form on this page for a current figure.
