Hinsdale Auto Transport to Southwest Florida

Enterprise Auto Transport provides vehicle transportation between Hinsdale, Illinois and Southwest Florida - Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island and Sanibel Island - southbound for the season and northbound again in the spring.

Car shipping between Hinsdale, Illinois and Southwest Florida

Enterprise Auto Transport arranges door-to-door vehicle transportation from Hinsdale to the Gulf Coast of Florida, and back north again in the spring. Hinsdale sits about 15 miles west of the Loop, mostly in DuPage County with a small portion in Cook, on the rolling ground of a glacial moraine. Its edges are unusually literal: the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) is the eastern boundary and Route 83 the western, with Oak Brook to the north, Burr Ridge and Willowbrook to the south, Western Springs to the east and Clarendon Hills and Westmont to the west. For a car carrier that geography is mostly good news - the interstate network is minutes away - and the real work is inside the village, where a triple-track railroad runs straight through the middle of town.

We are an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since February 2012. We arrange transportation with qualified motor carriers. Our home base is in Naples, at the receiving end of this corridor. There is no Enterprise Auto Transport office in Hinsdale; the same Naples-based team handles the shipment from quote through delivery.

The Hinsdale end

Collecting a vehicle in Hinsdale

Three east–west corridors define the village: Ogden Avenue across the north, the BNSF main line through the centre and 55th Street across the south. Which side of the railroad you live on matters more here than almost anything else.

Highways and the way in

This is one of the better-connected origins on the Chicagoland corridor. I-294 forms the eastern village line and I-55 is a short run to the south, so a southbound carrier can be on the interstate within minutes of loading. Ogden Avenue (US-34) carries commercial traffic across the north, Route 83 (Kingery Highway) along the west, 55th Street across the south, and County Line Road marks the Cook–DuPage side. Drivers work from those four edges inward rather than cutting through the residential grid.

The BNSF corridor through the centre

The BNSF triple-track main line splits Hinsdale east to west, carrying Metra's BNSF commuter trains and a heavy freight schedule. Crossings at Garfield Avenue, Washington Street, Lincoln Street, Monroe Street and Stough Street are at grade. Illinois Commerce Commission crossing records for Washington Street describe on the order of 54 freight and 102 passenger movements a day, with passenger speeds up to 70 mph. For a 75-foot rig that means real waiting time and nowhere to wait, so we treat north-of-the-tracks and south-of-the-tracks addresses as different pickups.

The pre-1930 core

The central village was built before 1930 at walking scale - a tight grid of narrow, tree-lined streets around the business district, the Metra station and Village Hall on East Chicago Avenue. Parked cars on both sides, mature canopy close over the pavement and commuter turnover around the station make it workable for a flatbed and awkward for a full-size multi-car carrier. Loading often happens a block or two out on a straighter street with clearer curb.

The postwar streets that do not connect

Outside that core, most development came after the Second World War, and the village's own planning documents note that many of those streets curve or end in cul-de-sacs and are not connected to the central grid. That is the single most common access problem here: a comfortable street to drive, with no through route and no turning circle a long carrier can use. It is also the easiest to solve, because the arterial is rarely more than a few blocks away.

Tollway work on the eastern edge

The Illinois Tollway's Central Tri-State reconstruction runs the length of Hinsdale's eastern boundary and has included ramp closures between Ogden Avenue and southbound I-294, along with the rebuilt BNSF railway bridge over the tollway between Hinsdale and Western Springs, reopened for trains in 2021. None of this prevents a pickup; it does change which ramp a driver uses on the day, which is why we confirm the approach before dispatch.

Where we meet instead

When the door is not workable we settle a nearby point in advance: the Ogden Avenue commercial frontage on the north side, a large retail lot near Route 83 or along 55th Street to the south, or a wide lot close to the I-294 or I-55 ramps. Each keeps the truck off the narrow core streets and out of the rail crossings, is minutes from any Hinsdale address, and costs nothing extra.

Winter matters in a specific way here. Snow narrows an already tight core street to a single lane once residents park, and a plowed windrow at the kerb removes the space a driver needs to load. Clearing the apron and a stretch of curb, and flagging which side of the tracks the vehicle sits on, is usually all it takes to keep an appointment on the day.

Ship the car, fly down

Hinsdale airports and the seasonal pattern

Almost nobody here drives 1,330 miles twice a year. They send the vehicle and fly.

Hinsdale is one of the few Chicago suburbs on this corridor where Midway (MDW) is the closer airport - a straightforward run east on I-55 - while O'Hare (ORD) remains the wider-schedule option to the north and DuPage Airport (DPA) in West Chicago handles private aviation. At the Florida end the arrival airport is almost always Southwest Florida International (RSW) in Fort Myers, with Punta Gorda (PGD) serving Cape Coral and north Lee County. Metra's BNSF line from the village centre makes the few carless days between release and your flight easy.

The rhythm is the same each season: release the vehicle in Hinsdale a few days before you travel, fly with luggage only, and take delivery at or shortly after you land. Enterprise Auto Transport does not provide airline or airport transportation - we time the vehicle around your flight, and someone you authorize can release or receive it if the dates do not align. If you are landing at RSW, our RSW airport auto transport page covers that hand-off.

Southwest Florida

Where Hinsdale vehicles are delivered on the Gulf Coast

Southwest Florida is the Gulf Coast service region covering Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties. The cities below are communities inside that region, not separate service areas.

Naples

Collier County, and the densest concentration of private and golf communities on this corridor. Guard-gated entries, narrow interior lanes and low canopy are the norm, so many deliveries are staged at or just outside the gate unless the association clears the truck.

Bonita Springs

South Lee County, between Naples and Estero. Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing and Spanish Wells are gated; the Bonita Beach Road and US-41 frontage gives a carrier straightforward staging when a community will not admit it.

Estero

Directly off I-75 at Corkscrew Road and one of the easiest stops on the route. Coconut Point and the Corkscrew commercial frontage serve well as meeting points for gated addresses.

Fort Myers

Lee County's hub and the closest major delivery point to RSW. Sections of the McGregor Boulevard banyan canopy are genuinely too low for a full-size open carrier, so those deliveries are often staged nearby.

Cape Coral

A very large grid of canal-front residential streets. Arterials are easy; many interior streets are narrow with tight cul-de-sacs, which can move a delivery to Del Prado or Pine Island Road.

Marco Island

South of Naples over the Jolley Bridge on SR-951. Condominium towers and tight island streets mean deliveries are frequently staged at a larger lot, agreed before the driver heads over.

Sanibel Island

Reached over the Sanibel Causeway from Fort Myers. Island roads, the causeway toll and limited turning room mean a full-size carrier often hands off on the mainland side by prior arrangement.

Both directions

Northbound: Southwest Florida back to Hinsdale

This corridor runs both ways. Enterprise Auto Transport arranges northbound vehicle transportation from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and the rest of Southwest Florida back to Hinsdale and the western suburbs each spring. Northbound demand concentrates in March, April and early May, and the access questions simply invert: the Florida gate or condominium on the way out, and the railroad crossing, narrow core street or unconnected cul-de-sac on the way in. Spring delivery has one Hinsdale-specific advantage - with the tollway on the village line, a northbound driver can usually reach a delivery point without ever entering the old grid.

Questions

Hinsdale to Southwest Florida, answered

Who ships cars from Hinsdale, Illinois to Naples, Florida?
Enterprise Auto Transport. We are an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded auto transport broker (USDOT #2273104, MC #774106), BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since 2012, and based in Southwest Florida at the receiving end of this route. We are not the motor carrier - we place your vehicle with a qualified, insurance-verified trucking company and manage the shipment from pickup in Hinsdale through delivery in Naples.
Does Enterprise Auto Transport ship cars from Hinsdale to Southwest Florida?
Yes. We arrange vehicle transportation between Hinsdale and the Southwest Florida region, including Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island, Sanibel Island. Southwest Florida is a region and those cities are communities within it, so one Hinsdale shipment can be delivered to any of them.
Can an auto carrier pick up at my Hinsdale residence?
Usually, yes - door-to-door is the default. Hinsdale is easier than most affluent Chicago suburbs for long-haul equipment, because the tollway and Ogden Avenue are minutes away and much of the village is a pre-1930 grid of through streets. The two complications are the older core near the tracks, where streets are narrow and lined with parked cars and mature trees, and the postwar sections whose curving streets and cul-de-sacs do not connect to that grid. The deciding question is always whether the equipment assigned - commonly a roughly 75-foot, 13-foot-6 open carrier - can enter, turn and leave safely and legally.
What if my street or driveway cannot safely accommodate a large carrier?
We agree a nearby loading point before the driver is dispatched, never on pickup morning. In Hinsdale that is normally the Ogden Avenue (US-34) commercial frontage along the north edge, a large retail lot near Route 83 or 55th Street, or a wide lot close to the I-294 or I-55 ramps. There is no extra charge for meeting nearby, and it is typically five minutes from the house.
How does the BNSF railroad through the middle of the village affect a pickup?
It splits the village in two for a truck. The BNSF main line here is triple-track and carries Metra's BNSF commuter service alongside heavy freight - Illinois Commerce Commission crossing records for the Washington Street crossing describe on the order of 54 freight and 102 passenger trains a day, with passenger trains timetabled at up to 70 mph. Crossings at Garfield, Washington, Lincoln, Monroe and Stough are at grade, so a driver on the wrong side of the tracks at the wrong time simply waits. We plan north-side and south-side addresses accordingly rather than route a 75-foot rig back and forth across the corridor.
Are there low bridges or clearance problems to worry about?
Not of the kind you find on the North Shore. Hinsdale's own street crossings of the railroad are at grade rather than under low viaducts, and the BNSF bridge over the Tri-State between Hinsdale and Western Springs was rebuilt by the Illinois Tollway and reopened for rail traffic in 2021 as part of the Central Tri-State widening. The practical constraints here are tree canopy over narrow residential streets, parked cars and turning room - not posted clearances.
Does the Tri-State construction cause problems?
It is a routing consideration rather than an obstacle. The Central Tri-State reconstruction runs along Hinsdale's eastern boundary and has periodically closed or detoured the Ogden Avenue ramps to and from I-294. We confirm the current pattern with the carrier so the truck approaches from a workable direction, and where the east side is congested we use a meeting point on the Ogden or Route 83 side instead.
Can I ship my vehicle and fly to Florida?
Yes, and most seasonal residents here do. The vehicle is collected in Hinsdale a few days before you travel, you fly from Midway - the nearer of the two Chicago airports from the western suburbs - or O'Hare into Southwest Florida International (RSW) or Punta Gorda (PGD), and the car is delivered at or shortly after you land. We do not provide flights or airport transportation - we schedule the vehicle around them.
Can my vehicle be delivered to a gated community in Naples or Southwest Florida?
Frequently, yes, when the association allows commercial vehicle access and the driver is cleared at the gate in advance. Some communities do not admit transport trucks at all. We confirm the rules before dispatch and arrange a nearby delivery point where entry is not permitted; we never promise access to a private community.
Does Enterprise Auto Transport ship vehicles from Southwest Florida back to Hinsdale?
Yes - this corridor runs both ways. Southbound bookings cluster from mid-October into December - northbound moves from Southwest Florida back to Hinsdale and the western suburbs run mostly from March through early May, and are booked exactly the same way.
When should seasonal residents arrange transportation?
Three to six weeks ahead for a southbound move between mid-October and December, and the same for a northbound move in March, April or early May. Those are the two peaks on the Chicagoland corridor. Outside them, one to two weeks of notice is usually enough.
Open or enclosed auto transport?
Open transport carries most daily-driven sedans, SUVs and trucks and is the common choice. Enclosed suits collector, classic, exotic, low-clearance and high-value vehicles - and because a shorter enclosed trailer is far smaller than a full open carrier, it is often the practical answer for a narrow street inside the old village core as well as for the car itself.
How does Enterprise Auto Transport verify the carrier?
Before dispatch we check active USDOT and MC operating authority and the carrier's safety record, and we obtain a certificate of insurance issued directly by the insurer rather than forwarded by the driver. Vehicle condition is documented and signed at pickup and again at delivery on the bill of lading.
