North suburbs ↔ Southwest Florida

Glenview Auto Transport to Southwest Florida

Enterprise Auto Transport arranges vehicle transportation between Glenview, Illinois and the Southwest Florida coast - Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island and Sanibel Island - south for the season and north again in the spring.

Car shipping between Glenview, Illinois and Southwest Florida

Glenview sits in Cook County roughly 20 miles north of downtown Chicago, and its position is unusually convenient for long-distance vehicle transport: the Edens Expressway (I-94) runs along the east side of the village and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) along the west, with an interchange at Willow Road. A southbound carrier can therefore load in Glenview and be on the interstate network in minutes without ever having to thread through the middle of town. What shapes an actual pickup here is not highway access but which part of Glenview you live in - the compact older downtown, a post-war subdivision, a newer cul-de-sac development, or the wide master-planned streets of The Glen.

We are an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since February 2012. We arrange transportation with qualified motor carriers, and our home base is in Naples, at the receiving end of this route. There is no Enterprise Auto Transport office in Glenview; the same Naples-based team handles the shipment from quote through delivery.

The Glenview end

Collecting a vehicle in Glenview

Two expressways on either side of the village, a handful of arterials in between, and two separate railroad corridors. Those three things decide how a carrier reaches your address.

Between the Edens and the Tri-State

Being bracketed by I-94 on the east and I-294 on the west is the single best thing about this origin. A driver picks whichever side your address favours - the Willow Road interchange with the tollway on the west, the Edens ramps on the east - and is southbound almost immediately. It also means a truck rarely needs to cross the whole village, which is what keeps Glenview pickups straightforward compared with suburbs that sit inside a single road network.

The arterials that actually matter

Only a few of Glenview's roads matter to a 75-foot rig. Willow Road is the east–west spine to the tollway. Waukegan Road (IL-43) is the IDOT-maintained north–south route serving downtown, the commercial strip and the train station. East and West Lake Avenue - a Cook County arterial on the east side - is the other main entryway, and Milwaukee Avenue (IL-21), Lehigh Avenue and Shermer Road fill in the rest. Drivers work inward from these and treat the residential streets as the last hundred yards.

Two railroads, two different stories

Metra's Milwaukee District North line runs through downtown Glenview, where the Depot Street station also carries Amtrak service, with a second stop at The Glen on Old Willow Road. West of the village a separate Union Pacific route crosses West Lake Avenue, Shermer Road and Willow Road. Where those crossings are at grade the effect on a truck is waiting time, not clearance - we do not describe them as height restrictions, because they are not. We plan pickups so a long carrier is not shuttling across a corridor during commuter periods.

Downtown Glenview

The blocks around Depot Street and the station are the most compact street environment in the village: older platting, kerb parking on both sides, commuter turnover through the morning and the rail corridor cutting across. Flatbeds and short enclosed trailers manage it comfortably. A full-size multi-car carrier often loads a block or two out on a straighter street with clear kerb instead, which is a practical choice by the driver rather than a restriction.

The Glen and the newer subdivisions

The Glen occupies the 1,121 acres of the former Naval Air Station, master-planned from the late 1990s around a connected street system with wide spine roads such as Patriot Boulevard, a town centre, offices and Gallery Park. For carrier access it is one of the easiest neighbourhoods in the north suburbs - generous lanes, real turning room and large open lots nearby. Elsewhere, newer subdivisions built around cul-de-sacs are the opposite case: pleasant to drive, with no through route and nowhere for a long trailer to turn, so loading usually shifts to the nearest arterial a few blocks away.

Roadwork on the east side

The Village and IDOT are carrying out an improvement at East Lake Avenue and Waukegan Road, with associated Waukegan Road utility work running across the 2026 and 2027 construction seasons. Conditions change week to week, so rather than plan around any one lane closure we confirm the current approach with the carrier before dispatch and, where the east side is slow, work from the Willow Road or Milwaukee Avenue side.

Winter is the other variable. Once snow is plowed to the kerb on a Glenview residential street, the space a driver needs to walk a vehicle onto the ramps disappears even though the street still looks passable. Clearing the apron and a stretch of kerb, and telling us in advance whether your address is in the downtown grid, a cul-de-sac or out on an arterial, is normally all it takes to keep the appointment.

Ship the car, fly down

Glenview airports and the seasonal pattern

Very few people here drive 1,400 miles twice a year. They send the vehicle and fly.

From Glenview the realistic departure airport is O'Hare, a short run south and west with the widest nonstop schedule into Southwest Florida. Midway is usable but sits on the far side of the city, and Chicago Executive Airport in nearby Wheeling matters only if you fly privately. At the Florida end the arrival is almost always Southwest Florida International (RSW) in Fort Myers, with Punta Gorda (PGD) serving Cape Coral and north Lee County.

The pattern repeats each season: release the vehicle in Glenview a few days before you travel, fly with luggage only, and take delivery at or shortly after you land. Enterprise Auto Transport does not provide flights or airport transportation - we time the vehicle around your travel, and someone you authorize can release or receive it if the dates do not line up. If you are landing at RSW, our RSW airport auto transport page covers that hand-off.

Southwest Florida

Where Glenview vehicles are delivered on the Gulf Coast

Southwest Florida is the Gulf Coast service region covering Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties. The cities below are communities inside that region, not separate service areas.

Naples

Collier County, and the heaviest concentration of private and golf communities on this corridor. Guard-gated entries and narrow interior lanes mean many deliveries are staged at or just outside the gate unless the association clears the truck in advance.

Bonita Springs

South Lee County, between Naples and Estero. Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing and Spanish Wells are gated; the Bonita Beach Road and US-41 frontage gives a driver simple staging when a community will not admit a carrier.

Estero

Directly off I-75 at Corkscrew Road, and one of the quickest stops on the route. Coconut Point and the Corkscrew commercial frontage work well as meeting points for gated addresses.

Fort Myers

Lee County's hub and the nearest major delivery point to RSW. Parts of the McGregor Boulevard banyan canopy are genuinely too low for a full-size open carrier, so those deliveries are often staged nearby.

Cape Coral

A very large grid of canal-front residential streets. The arterials are easy; many interior streets are narrow with tight cul-de-sacs, which can move a delivery to Del Prado or Pine Island Road.

Marco Island

South of Naples over the Jolley Bridge on SR-951. Condominium towers and tight island streets mean deliveries are frequently staged at a larger lot agreed before the driver heads over.

Sanibel Island

Reached over the Sanibel Causeway from Fort Myers. Island roads, the causeway toll and limited turning room mean a full-size carrier often hands off on the mainland side by prior arrangement.

Both directions

Northbound: Southwest Florida back to Glenview

This lane runs both ways and we treat the two directions the same. Each spring Enterprise Auto Transport arranges northbound transportation from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island and Sanibel back to Glenview, with demand concentrated in March, April and early May. The access questions simply invert - a Florida gate or condominium tower on the way out, and a downtown street, a cul-de-sac or a rail crossing on the way in. Northbound has one Glenview advantage: with the tollway and the Edens on either side, a driver can usually reach a delivery point on an arterial without entering the older grid at all.

Questions

Glenview to Southwest Florida, answered

How does car shipping from Glenview to Florida work?
You tell us the two addresses and the window you have in mind, we quote the lane, and once you accept we place the vehicle with a qualified motor carrier running the Chicagoland–Gulf Coast route. The driver contacts you to settle the loading spot, condition is documented and signed on the bill of lading at pickup, and the same inspection is repeated at delivery. Enterprise Auto Transport is an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker (USDOT #2273104, MC #774106), BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since 2012. We arrange and manage the shipment, but we don't own the trucks, and we have no office in Glenview.
Can a carrier pick my vehicle up at my Glenview home?
In most cases, yes - door-to-door is how we quote by default, and wherever it is workable the carrier collects at your address. Glenview helps here: the village is bracketed by the Edens and the Tri-State, and Willow Road, Waukegan Road and Lake Avenue give a long truck real arterials to work from. The final call belongs to the assigned driver, who judges the street against the equipment actually on the job.
What happens if the transporter cannot safely access my street?
Then we agree a nearby loading point in advance, not on pickup morning. The things that decide it are ordinary and physical: street width, cars parked on both sides, turning radius at the end of a cul-de-sac, traffic, an at-grade crossing in the way, active roadwork, low branches over the pavement, the size of the trailer, and whether there is a legal place to stop and load. None of that is unique to Glenview, and none of it is a village rule - Glenview does not have a blanket ordinance keeping car carriers out of its neighbourhoods.
Where might we meet the carrier instead?
Usually a large open commercial lot on one of the arterials: along Willow Road near the tollway side, on the Waukegan Road or Milwaukee Avenue commercial frontage, or in the wide-open retail parking at The Glen. Any of them is a few minutes from a Glenview address, keeps the truck out of the downtown grid and off the rail crossings, and costs nothing extra.
Is downtown Glenview different from the rest of the village?
Yes, and it is the one part of Glenview where loading at the kerb is genuinely tight. The blocks around the Depot Street station are a compact older street pattern with angled and parallel parking, commuter turnover and the Metra line running through the middle. By contrast, The Glen - the 1,121-acre redevelopment of the former Naval Air Station - was master-planned in the late 1990s with a connected street system and wide spine roads such as Patriot Boulevard, and is one of the easier places in the north suburbs to put a full-size carrier. Older post-war subdivisions and newer cul-de-sac developments sit in between.
Do the railroad tracks affect a Glenview pickup?
They affect timing rather than access. Metra's Milwaukee District North line runs through downtown Glenview, where the Depot Street station is also an Amtrak stop, and a second station serves The Glen on Old Willow Road. Separately, Union Pacific tracks cross west Glenview at West Lake Avenue, Shermer Road and Willow Road. Where a crossing is at grade, a truck simply waits for the train - that is not a clearance problem and we make no claim about posted heights. We schedule around the corridor instead of routing a long rig back and forth across it.
Is the Lake Avenue and Waukegan Road work a problem?
It is a routing question, not an obstacle. The Village and IDOT have a multi-year improvement at that intersection, with associated Waukegan Road utility work spread across the 2026 and 2027 construction seasons. Conditions on any given week change, so we confirm the current pattern with the carrier and, if the east side is congested, work from the Willow Road or Milwaukee Avenue side instead.
Can I ship my vehicle and fly to Florida?
Yes - that is the usual arrangement for seasonal residents here. O'Hare is the realistic departure airport from Glenview, Midway is the longer run south, and Chicago Executive in Wheeling serves private aviation. You release the vehicle a few days before you travel and take delivery at or shortly after you land at Southwest Florida International (RSW) or Punta Gorda (PGD). Enterprise Auto Transport does not provide flights or airport transportation - we schedule the vehicle around yours.
How far ahead should seasonal customers book?
Three to six weeks for a southbound move between mid-October and December, and the same for a northbound move in March, April or early May. Those are the two peaks on the Chicagoland corridor. Outside them, one to two weeks of notice is usually enough.
Can I ship from Naples or Southwest Florida back to Glenview?
Yes - this corridor runs both directions, and northbound is booked exactly the same way. We arrange transportation from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island, Sanibel Island and the rest of the region back to Glenview, with demand concentrated from March through early May.
Should I use open or enclosed transportation?
Open transport carries most daily-driven sedans, SUVs and trucks and is the common choice on this lane. Enclosed suits collector, classic, exotic, low-clearance and high-value vehicles - and because an enclosed trailer is typically shorter than a full open carrier, it is often the easier option on a tight downtown Glenview street as well.
Can you transport luxury, collector or high-value vehicles?
Yes. Those move on enclosed equipment with a carrier whose cargo coverage we have confirmed is adequate for the declared value, and with soft-tie or wheel-strap securement where the vehicle calls for it. Low-clearance cars are matched to a trailer with a lift gate or low-angle ramps rather than loaded on a steep approach.
How does carrier verification work?
Before dispatch we check active USDOT and MC operating authority and the carrier's safety record, and we obtain a certificate of insurance issued directly by the insurer rather than forwarded by the driver. Vehicle condition is documented and signed at pickup and again at delivery on the bill of lading.
When is my pickup date confirmed?
Once a specific carrier is assigned to your shipment. Before that you have a booking window rather than an hour on a calendar, because the date depends on the truck actually running the lane. The assigned driver confirms the day and calls ahead with an arrival window, and any change to the loading location is settled then rather than at the kerb.
