Verify before you book

Two minutes on the FMCSA website tells you who you're really dealing with

You do not have to take any company's word for it. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration keeps free public records on every licensed broker and carrier in the country. Here is exactly what to ask for and where to verify it:

  1. 1.Ask for the MC and USDOT numbers

Every legitimate broker and carrier must provide both on request. Our numbers: USDOT #2273104 and MC #774106. If a company hesitates or deflects, stop.

  2. 2.Look them up on the FMCSA SAFER system

Go to safer.fmcsa.dot.gov and use the Company Snapshot search. Enter the MC or USDOT number and confirm the legal name, operating status and “Authorized” broker or carrier authority match what you were told.

  3. 3.Confirm the $75,000 broker bond

In the FMCSA Licensing & Insurance portal (li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov), verify the broker's BMC-84 bond or BMC-85 trust fund is active. No active bond means no legal authority to broker your shipment.

  4. 4.Demand the carrier's information and payment breakdown

If a company says they have a carrier for you but never sends you the carrier's name, DOT/MC number, driver contact and truck details, or you never get to see how much of your payment is going to the carrier, that is a red flag. A legitimate broker discloses the assigned carrier and explains the broker fee before you book.

When you check our records you'll find Enterprise Auto Transport, USDOT #2273104, MC #774106; an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker based in Naples, Florida, working by phone and email with no walk-in office. You can also read our full carrier vetting process.

We have news

Enterprise Auto Transport is adding another layer of protection to the way we select motor carriers.

We are now utilizing Carrier Assure, a carrier-performance and risk-intelligence platform used by transportation professionals to help evaluate trucking companies before freight is entrusted to them.

This is an additional expense for our company, but we believe carrier selection is one of the most important responsibilities we have as an auto transport broker.

What Carrier Assure analyzes

Carrier Assure analyzes extensive carrier data, including DOT/FMCSA safety information, inspections and violations, out-of-service performance, authority history, business stability, reported insurance information, operational activity, carrier relationships, and reported fraud or performance concerns.

It can also help identify warning signs involving double brokering, suspicious or related companies, authority changes, insurance lapses, theft concerns, and other patterns that may warrant additional investigation.

It adds a layer - it does not replace our own vetting

Carrier Assure does not replace our own carrier-vetting procedures. It adds another layer to them.

Enterprise Auto Transport will continue conducting our own verification procedures, including reviewing carrier authority and safety information, verifying insurance as appropriate, and confirming the carrier and driver assigned to your vehicle.

Our first real test: three carriers, three declines

Today was our first real opportunity to see the value of adding Carrier Assure to our carrier-vetting process.

We ran three prospective carriers through the platform today. All three raised concerns that caused us to decline using them.

What stood out was that each of these carriers showed a 4.9 rating on the load board and had a history of working with well-known brokerages.

One carrier had a D rating but was associated with an address of another carrier who had an F rating.

That was an important reminder: a strong load-board rating doesn't necessarily tell the entire story.

Carrier selection requires looking beyond star ratings

Carrier selection requires looking beyond reviews and star ratings. Safety data, inspection history, authority history, insurance patterns, reported incidents, business relationships and other risk indicators can provide a much more complete picture.

There is no system that can eliminate every transportation risk. Our goal is to use the information and technology available to us to make more informed carrier-selection decisions and reduce unnecessary risk.

The question we ask before every dispatch

For us, adding Carrier Assure simply means having another source of information before we decide:

Would I put my own vehicle on this truck?

If the answer isn't yes, we're going to keep looking.

What our brokerage fee pays for

We would rather spend more money vetting the company transporting your vehicle than simply choose the cheapest truck available.

That is part of what our brokerage fee pays for - the work that happens behind the scenes to determine who we are willing to trust with your vehicle.

This isn't about criticizing other brokers or carriers. Every company has its own vetting procedures and risk tolerance. For our customers, it means one more safeguard between your vehicle and an unknown truck.

Key takeaways

  • Enterprise Auto Transport has added Carrier Assure, a carrier-performance and risk-intelligence platform, to its carrier-vetting process.
  • The platform analyzes DOT/FMCSA safety data, inspections, authority history, insurance information and fraud-related risk indicators.
  • Carrier Assure adds a layer to our vetting - it does not replace our own verification of authority, safety records, insurance and the assigned driver.
  • On the first day of use, all three prospective carriers we ran through the platform were declined despite showing 4.9 load-board ratings.
  • A strong load-board rating doesn't tell the entire story; we would rather spend more vetting a carrier than simply choose the cheapest truck available.
