Northwest suburbs ↔ Southwest Florida

Barrington Auto Transport to Southwest Florida

Enterprise Auto Transport provides vehicle transportation between Barrington, Illinois and Southwest Florida - Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island and Sanibel Island - southbound for the season and northbound again in the spring.

Car shipping between Barrington, Illinois and Southwest Florida

Enterprise Auto Transport arranges door-to-door vehicle transportation from Barrington to the Gulf Coast of Florida, and back north again in the spring. Barrington is not a North Shore lakefront village - it sits inland in Chicago's northwest suburbs, roughly 32 miles from the Loop, on the Cook and Lake county line, with open country, forest preserve and acreage zoning beginning almost immediately outside the village. That changes how a car carrier works here: the constraints are at-grade freight railroads, a busy three-highway village centre and long private drives, rather than bluffs and ravines.

We are an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded broker, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since February 2012. We arrange transportation with qualified motor carriers. Our home base is in Naples, at the receiving end of this corridor. There is no Enterprise Auto Transport office in Barrington; the same Naples-based team handles the shipment from quote through delivery.

The Barrington end

Collecting a vehicle in Barrington

Three state highways and two railroads meet inside a small village centre, and the countryside around it is measured in acres rather than lot widths. Both facts shape where a carrier can load.

Highways and the way in

Most long-haul equipment reaches Barrington from I-90, the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway, south of the village, using the Barrington Road or IL-59 interchanges and running north. Inside the village three IDOT routes carry the traffic - Northwest Highway (US-14), Hough Street (IL-59) and Main Street (Lake-Cook Road) - with Algonquin Road (IL-62) and Ela Road handling local movement. Ela Road is a useful example of how layered this area is: Cook County maintains it south of Lake-Cook Road, Lake County north of it.

Two railroads, both at grade

Metra's Union Pacific Northwest commuter line runs through the heart of the village, and the Canadian National line on the former Elgin, Joliet & Eastern route crosses it as well, with crossings at Hough Street, Main Street, Cook Street and Hillside Avenue. Freight length and frequency on the CN line are exactly why the village fought for a grade separation. For a driver this is about timing rather than clearance - a blocked crossing can hold a 75-foot rig for several minutes in a place with nowhere to wait.

The US-14 underpass work

The Route 14 grade-separation project is lowering Northwest Highway beneath the CN tracks, relocating a tributary of Flint Creek and rebuilding the Route 14 and Route 59 intersection. The staging has included lane reductions on Hough Street and a temporary runaround road. None of this prevents a pickup; it does mean we confirm the current pattern before the driver commits to a route, and it makes the village centre a poor place to stage a truck while work continues.

The village centre itself

The Village Center sits between Northwest Highway, the CN tracks and Russell Street, with the retail core along Hough Street and Main Street and the Metra station in the middle of it. Angled parking, commuter turnover, recent streetscape work on Cook, Station and Park and constant rail activity make it workable for a pickup truck and awkward for a car carrier. Residential streets immediately around it are older and narrow, so loading often happens a block or two out on a straighter street.

Acreage, gravel and long drives

Outside the village the pattern changes completely. Barrington Hills - a separate village spanning Cook, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties, with a five-acre minimum for new construction since 1963 and more than 150 miles of riding trails - is horse country: long drives, gravel surfaces, paddock fencing and mature trees close to the pavement. South Barrington, North Barrington, Lake Barrington, Tower Lakes, Deer Park and Inverness are each their own municipality with their own mix. A drive that a rig would have to reverse out of, or soft ground after a thaw, is the usual reason we load at the road end or a nearby lot instead.

Where we meet instead

When the door is not workable we settle a nearby point in advance: the Northwest Highway commercial frontage, a large retail lot along Lake-Cook Road or Barrington Road, or a wide public lot near the I-90 interchange south of the village. Each keeps the truck out of the rail crossings and the construction zone, is minutes from most addresses in the Barrington area, and costs nothing extra.

Winter matters here in a specific way. The open, rolling ground west and north of the village drifts badly in wind, and a gravel drive that is fine in October can be a rutted, soft surface after a thaw. Plowing an apron and a stretch of the road end frequently makes the difference between loading that morning and moving the appointment.

Ship the car, fly down

Barrington airports and the seasonal pattern

Almost nobody here drives 1,430 miles twice a year. They send the vehicle and fly.

O'Hare International (ORD) is about 25 road miles southeast of Barrington via I-90 and handles nearly all of this traffic. Chicago Executive (PWK) in Wheeling covers private aviation, and Midway (MDW) is occasionally the better fare despite the longer drive. At the Florida end the arrival airport is almost always Southwest Florida International (RSW) in Fort Myers, with Punta Gorda (PGD) serving Cape Coral and north Lee County. The Metra Union Pacific Northwest line from the village centre makes the few carless days between release and your flight straightforward.

The rhythm is the same each season: release the vehicle in Barrington a few days before you travel, fly with luggage only, and take delivery at or shortly after you land. Enterprise Auto Transport does not provide airline or airport transportation - we time the vehicle around your flight, and someone you authorize can release or receive it if the dates do not align. If you are landing at RSW, our RSW airport auto transport page covers that hand-off.

Southwest Florida

Where Barrington vehicles are delivered on the Gulf Coast

Southwest Florida is the Gulf Coast service region covering Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties. The cities below are communities inside that region, not separate service areas.

Naples

Collier County, and the densest concentration of private and golf communities on this corridor. Guard-gated entries, narrow interior lanes and low canopy are the norm, so many deliveries are staged at or just outside the gate unless the association clears the truck.

Bonita Springs

South Lee County, between Naples and Estero. Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing and Spanish Wells are gated; the Bonita Beach Road and US-41 frontage gives a carrier straightforward staging when a community will not admit it.

Estero

Directly off I-75 at Corkscrew Road and one of the easiest stops on the route. Coconut Point and the Corkscrew commercial frontage serve well as meeting points for gated addresses.

Fort Myers

Lee County's hub and the closest major delivery point to RSW. Sections of the McGregor Boulevard banyan canopy are genuinely too low for a full-size open carrier, so those deliveries are often staged nearby.

Cape Coral

A very large grid of canal-front residential streets. Arterials are easy; many interior streets are narrow with tight cul-de-sacs, which can move a delivery to Del Prado or Pine Island Road.

Marco Island

South of Naples over the Jolley Bridge on SR-951. Condominium towers and tight island streets mean deliveries are frequently staged at a larger lot, agreed before the driver heads over.

Sanibel Island

Reached over the Sanibel Causeway from Fort Myers. Island roads, the causeway toll and limited turning room mean a full-size carrier often hands off on the mainland side by prior arrangement.

Both directions

Northbound: Southwest Florida back to Barrington

This corridor runs both ways. Enterprise Auto Transport arranges northbound vehicle transportation from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and the rest of Southwest Florida back to Barrington and the surrounding Barrington-area communities each spring. Northbound demand concentrates in March, April and early May, and the access questions simply invert: the Florida gate or condominium on the way out, and the rail crossings, construction staging or long gravel drive on the way in.

Questions

Barrington to Southwest Florida, answered

Who ships cars from Barrington, Illinois to Naples, Florida?
Enterprise Auto Transport. We are an owner-operated, federally licensed and bonded auto transport broker (USDOT #2273104, MC #774106), BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, serving customers since 2012, and based in Southwest Florida at the receiving end of this route. We are not the motor carrier - we place your vehicle with a qualified, insurance-verified trucking company and manage the shipment from pickup in Barrington through delivery in Naples.
Does Enterprise Auto Transport ship cars from Barrington to Southwest Florida?
Yes. We arrange vehicle transportation between the Barrington area and the Southwest Florida region, including Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Marco Island, Sanibel Island. Southwest Florida is a region and those cities are communities within it, so one Barrington shipment can be delivered to any of them.
Do you serve the other Barrington-area communities as well?
Yes, and it is worth being precise about them, because they are separate municipalities rather than parts of the Village of Barrington. Barrington Hills, South Barrington, North Barrington, Lake Barrington, Tower Lakes, Deer Park and Inverness each have their own village government, their own street network and their own lot sizes. We arrange transportation from all of them; the access planning simply differs, and a five-acre Barrington Hills parcel is a very different pickup from a street inside the village centre.
Can an auto carrier pick up at my Barrington residence?
Usually, yes - door-to-door is the default. The question is always whether the equipment assigned, commonly a roughly 75-foot, 13-foot-6 open carrier, can enter, turn and leave safely and legally. Village-centre streets near Hough and Main are tight and busy - the acreage roads west and north of town are wide but often have soft shoulders, long gravel drives and low tree cover. We look at the actual address before dispatch rather than assume.
What if my road or driveway cannot safely accommodate a large carrier?
We agree a nearby loading point before the driver is dispatched, never on pickup morning. Around Barrington that is typically the US-14 (Northwest Highway) commercial frontage, a large retail lot along Lake-Cook Road or Barrington Road, or a wide public lot near the I-90 interchange south of town. There is no extra charge for meeting nearby, and it is normally a few minutes from the house.
How do the railroad crossings affect a pickup here?
Two railroads cross the village at grade: Metra's Union Pacific Northwest commuter line and the Canadian National line on the former EJ&E route. Freight volume on the CN line is the reason the village pursued the US-14 underpass - village figures put close to 30,000 vehicles a day across that single crossing. For a transport driver this is a timing issue, not a clearance issue: a long freight train can hold a truck for several minutes, so drivers plan around peak windows and the current construction staging.
Is the Route 14 underpass construction a problem for a pickup?
It is a routing consideration rather than an obstacle. The grade-separation project has brought staged lane reductions on Hough Street (Route 59) and a temporary runaround for Route 14 traffic. We confirm the current staging with the carrier so the truck approaches from a workable direction, and if the village centre is congested that day we simply use a meeting point outside it.
What about homes in Barrington Hills or on private and gated roads?
Barrington Hills has had a five-acre minimum for new construction since 1963 and is largely long private drives, paddock fencing and gravel - beautiful, and frequently not somewhere a loaded ten-car rig should attempt to turn around. North Barrington includes gated communities such as Wynstone, where the association decides whether a commercial truck is admitted at all. We confirm both the physical access and the permission before dispatch, and we never assume a private drive or gate may be used.
Can I ship my vehicle and fly to Florida?
Yes, and most seasonal residents here do. The vehicle is collected in Barrington a few days before you travel, you fly from O'Hare - about 25 road miles down I-90 - into Southwest Florida International (RSW) or Punta Gorda (PGD), and the car is delivered at or shortly after you land. We do not provide flights or airport transportation - we schedule the vehicle around them.
Can my vehicle be delivered to a gated community in Naples or Southwest Florida?
Frequently, yes, when the association allows commercial vehicle access and the driver is cleared at the gate in advance. Some communities do not admit transport trucks at all. We confirm the rules before dispatch and arrange a nearby delivery point where entry is not permitted; we never promise access to a private community.
Does Enterprise Auto Transport ship vehicles from Southwest Florida back to Barrington?
Yes - this corridor runs both ways. Southbound bookings cluster from mid-October into December - northbound moves from Southwest Florida back to the Barrington area run mostly from March through early May, and are booked exactly the same way.
When should seasonal residents arrange transportation?
Three to six weeks ahead for a southbound move between mid-October and December, and the same for a northbound move in March, April or early May. Those are the two peaks on the Chicagoland corridor. Outside them, one to two weeks of notice is usually enough.
Open or enclosed auto transport?
Open transport carries most daily-driven sedans, SUVs and trucks and is the common choice. Enclosed suits collector, classic, exotic, low-clearance and high-value vehicles - and because a shorter enclosed trailer is far smaller than a full open carrier, it is often the practical answer for a long gravel drive on an acreage parcel as well as for the car itself.
How does Enterprise Auto Transport verify the carrier?
Before dispatch we check active USDOT and MC operating authority and the carrier's safety record, and we obtain a certificate of insurance issued directly by the insurer rather than forwarded by the driver. Vehicle condition is documented and signed at pickup and again at delivery on the bill of lading.
