Then compare brokerages on transparency, not just the top-line number. A trustworthy brokerage will tell you the brokerage fee separately, explain how the carrier is paid, and let you verify their FMCSA authority before you send a deposit.

Red flags that a 'cheap' quote will cost you more

Beware of anyone who demands a large deposit upfront, refuses to disclose the brokerage fee, pushes you to pay by Zelle or Venmo, or pressures you to book immediately. A standard brokerage fee is $299 per vehicle, with applicable discounts; the rest is paid to the carrier at delivery.

If a quote is hundreds of dollars below every other quote, it is not a deal - it is a hook. The carrier market is efficient. Drivers will not haul a load that does not cover fuel, labor and return-trip economics.
